Interest rates and the recent weakness in M2: An extension to the P model of inflation

A model of changes in the deflator for nondurables and services consumption expenditures is estimated simultaneously with the error-correction model of M2 growth described in Koenig (1996). The inflation forecasts generated by the joint model have marginal predictive power for changes in the GDP deflator and exhibit none of the systematic bias which has plagued the original formulation in recent years. Output-market slack is of little use in predicting changes in the consumption deflator, but there is evidence of a speed effect.     

近期船用钢板价格分析

今年以来,国内中厚板市场价格持续上扬,特别是各种规格的船用钢板涨势明显,且资源紧缺,甚至"有价无市".从总体上看,近期中厚板市场还是看好,一些资源偏紧的产品,依然供不应求,价格稳中趋升.比如时下船用钢板,一直保持"货紧价扬"运行态势,截至4月1日,6mm船板价格普遍在6430～6450元/吨;8mm船板为6100～6120元/吨;10mm船板为5950～5970元/吨;12～20mm船板为5750～5770元/吨,22mm船板为5800元/吨,尽管船板价位较高,但市场上的资源并不多,供不应求,销售势头因此一直较好.目前一些制造企业为了应对钢价上涨,千方百计提高钢材利用率,现在的板材利用率已经达到95%,边角料都被充分利用了.     

Response to price and production risk: The case of Australian wheat

A model of Australian wheat grower supply response was specified under the constrainsts of price and yield uncertainty, risk aversion, partial adjustment, and quadratic costs. The model was solved to obtain area planted. The results of estimation indicate that risk arising from prices and climate have had a significant influence on producer decision making. The coefficient of relative risk aversion and short‐run and long‐run elasticities of supply with respect to price were calculated. Wheat growers' risk premium, expected at the start of the season for exposed price and yield risk, was 2.8 percent of revenue or 10.4 percent of profit as measured by producer surplus. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 浅谈当前企业统计工作存在的问题及对策

在市场经济的今天,企业统计工作越来越重要.可以说统计工作是企业管理中的一项基础工作.但现在我们的企业统计工作中仍然存在统计方法简单、统计手段不适应现代企业发展得要求等诸多问题,使得统计影响企业的正常发展.笔者试从建立一支业务素质高的统计队伍等方面入手,探讨如何做好现代企业的统计工作.     

教育质量波动性对住宅价格的影响研究

“学区房热”源于优质教育资源总量不足、学区间教育质量分布不均。通过分离家庭的学区房购置时刻与住房教育价值实现时刻,区分家庭在事前与事后对住宅附加教育收益的不同评估方式,从微观视角分析学区教育质量波动性的不同是导致择校现象和学区房溢价的另一方面原因。为减轻教育质量波动性给义务教育入学环境带来的负面影响,推动绩效公开、持续投入资源、发展一贯制教育是可行的教育调控政策。该发现还可推广于其他具有质量波动性的公共服务,提示在城市建设时应降低这些设施与服务的质量风险,以便从全方位稳定住宅市场价格。     

On the ranking of price and quantity controls under uncertainty

It is shown that the equivalence of optimal price, optimal export quota and optimal import quota, known to hold under conditions of complete certainty, also holds if foreign demand is certain, however uncertain is the domestic production set. It is further shown that, even if foreign demand is uncertain, the three controls can be ranked in a special case.     

Attitudes toward the extension and parent brand in response to extension advertising

This paper investigates how ads for extensions can trigger different reactions with respect to consumers' attitudes towards new line and brand extensions of familiar brands. Using a structural equation model, the authors research the influence of attitude towards the ad (Aad), parent brand quality, and perceived fit on attitude toward the extension (Aext), and resulting feedback effects on attitude toward the parent brand (Apb) with a sample of 509 Belgians. Results are compared between two types of advertising strategies (informational vs. positive emotional). The findings indicate that informational appeals, in comparison to emotional appeals, reduce the effects of parent brand quality and fit, but Aad is all the more important. In terms of feedback effects to the parent brand, Aext transfers more easily to Apb with an informational appeal than with a positive emotional appeal. On the other hand, Aad directly influences Apb for positive emotional appeals, but not informational appeals.

Modelling the asymmetric responses of price level to oil price changes in Qatar

This paper inspects the asymmetric effect of oil price on prices level in Qatar. To achieve that, we proceed by employing a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach on data during the period 1990Q1–2014Q4. The estimation results show evidences of an incomplete and asymmetric influence of oil price on price level in the long term. Moreover, we find that price responses to negative changes in oil price is greater than its response to positive changes. Given Qatar’s economic features, a decrease in oil price could cause lower imports and production prices and consequently a substantial influence on domestic prices level. However, the lower effect of positive oil price changes on consumer prices can be explained by the subsidies system, the consumption patterns, and the exchange rate regime.     

Consumer education and empowerment in Europe: recent developments in policy and practice

This article develops the findings of an evaluation of European Commission consumer education, information and capacity building actions conducted in 2011, with an examination of action taken by 2016 to address the recommendations. Based on empirical research of documents, in‐depth interviews, focus groups and semi‐structured surveys of Directorate General for Health and Consumers and Directorate General for Education and Culture policy networks, it discusses the journey taken to improve consumer education and empowerment throughout Europe. Implementation of the recommendations aims to transform consumer education and empowerment in Europe, with integrated and updated resources for the maximum number of teachers across the European Union, where teachers can focus the resources on consumer education activities relevant for their learners. A key focus of the new developments is to deliver higher European Union (pan‐European) added‐value, better coordination and synergies with national activities.

On the Chinese B-share price discount puzzle: Some new evidence

Since February 2001, the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission allowed domestic trade in foreign-currency denominated shares (B-shares) whose trade was originally restricted to foreign investors. We investigate possible effects of lifting the ownership restriction on the B-share discounts and explore why the discount persists even after removing the restriction. The discount is the percentage by which the B-shares are priced less than the otherwise identical Chinese-currency denominated shares held by domestic investors (A-shares). The results suggest that prices in the B- and A-share markets are closely linked over the long-run and that this equilibrium relationship strengthened in the post-lifting period. Our results further rule out information asymmetry as a reason for the continuation of the discount and support instead the importance of firm size and relative supply of the B-shares.

粮食价格与居民消费价格水平联动效应研究

明晰粮食价格与居民消费价格水平之间的关系意义重大。基于1979—2020年中国粮食价格和居民消费价格水平年度数据,运用向量误差修正模型和Granger因果分析,对粮食价格与居民消费价格水平间的关系进行实证分析。结果表明:短期内,居民消费价格水平对粮食价格的影响远大于粮食价格对居民消费价格水平的影响,居民消费价格水平变动与粮食价格变动之间存在单向Granger因果关系;长期看,两者之间存在双向Granger因果关系。根据研究结论,提出了加强粮食价格和居民消费价格监测、稳定粮食价格水平、加大市场调控等对策建议。
