In this paper, we consider a family of bivariate distributions which is a generalization of the Morgenstern family of bivariate distributions. We have derived some properties of concomitants of record values which characterize this generalized class of distributions. The role of concomitants of record values in the unique determination of the parent bivariate distribution has been established. We have also derived properties of concomitants of record values which characterize each of the following families viz Morgenstern family, bivariate Pareto family and a generalized Gumbel’s family of bivariate distributions. Some applications of the characterization results are discussed and important conclusions based on the characterization results are drawn.  相似文献

Pareto variables are widely used. It is useful to be able to obtain the distribution of some simple functions of Pareto variables in a convenient manner. The Mellin transform with its convolution and exponentiation properties is utilized to that end. Specifically, expressions are written for products, quotients, and sums of products of Pareto variables. These include the distribution of the geometric mean and the product of minimum values of Pareto variables. The Office of Naval Research partially supported the work under Contract No. N000-14-75-C-0254.  相似文献

In this paper, firstly an introduction to the idea of record values for a sequence of independent and identically (Lomax or Pareto II) distributed random variables is given. Some of the distributional properties of these record values and moments up to second order are derived. These moments clearly depend on the location, scale and shape parameter of the Lomax distribution and two types of estlmators of these parameters, based on a series of observed record values are presented.  相似文献

The Pareto distribution is commonly used by economists as a model for the distribution of incomes. Separate confidence intervals or approximate confidence intervals for the parameters of Pareto distribution were discussed by some authors. This paper discusses exact joint confidence region for the parameters of Pareto distribution. The method can be used for both complete samples and type II censored samples.  相似文献

General inequalities of Hölder type between moments of order statistics and moments of record values respectively are derived. Special choices of the involved sample sizes and ranks and discussions of when equality is attained in these inequalities yield several characterizations of well known distributions, such as the uniform, polynomial, Pareto, reflected Pareto, exponential, Weibull distribution and some others.  相似文献

Here we introduce a bivariate generalized hypergeometric factorial moment distribution (BGHFMD) through its probability generating function (p.g.f.) whose marginal distributions are the generalized hypergeometric factorial moment distributions introduced by Kemp and Kemp (Bull Int Stat Inst 43:336–338,1969). Well-known bivariate versions of distributions such as binomial, negative binomial and Poisson are special cases of this distribution. A genesis of the distribution and explicit closed form expressions for the probability mass function of the BGHFMD, its factorial moments and the p.g.f.’s of its conditional distributions are derived here. Certain recurrence relations for probabilities, moments and factorial moments of the bivariate distribution are also established.  相似文献

Generalized order statistics have been introduced in Kamps (1995a). They enable a unified approach to several models of ordered random variables, e.g. (ordinary) order statistics, record values, sequential order statistics, record values from non-identical distributions. The purpose of this paper is to develop conditional distributions of one generalized order statistic given another and to characterize the underlying continuous distribution by different conditional expectations. Well-known results for ordinary order statistics and record values are extended to generalized order statistics. Received: July 1997  相似文献

In the two-sample prediction problem, record values from the present sample may be used as predictors of order statistics from a future sample. In this paper, we investigate the nearness of record statistics (upper and lower) to order statistics from a location-scale family of distributions in the sense of Pitman closeness and discuss the corresponding monotonicity properties. We then determine the closest record value to a specific order statistic from a future sample. Even though in general it depends on the parent distribution, exact and explicit expressions are derived for the required probabilities in the case of exponential and uniform distributions, and some computational results are presented as well. Finally, we consider the mean squared error criterion and examine the corresponding results in the exponential case.  相似文献

Statistical tolerance intervals for discrete distributions are widely employed for assessing the magnitude of discrete characteristics of interest in applications like quality control, environmental monitoring, and the validation of medical devices. For such data problems, characterizing extreme counts or outliers is also of considerable interest. These applications typically use traditional discrete distributions, like the Poisson, binomial, and negative binomial. The discrete Pareto distribution is an alternative yet flexible model for count data that are heavily right‐skewed. Our contribution is the development of statistical tolerance limits for the discrete Pareto distribution as a strategy for characterizing the extremeness of observed counts in the tail. We discuss the coverage probabilities of our procedure in the broader context of known coverage issues for statistical intervals for discrete distributions. We address this issue by applying a bootstrap calibration to the confidence level of the asymptotic confidence interval for the discrete Pareto distribution's parameter. We illustrate our procedure on a dataset involving cyst formation in mice kidneys.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain some recurrence relationships for conditional expectations of nonadjacent order statistics and record values when the distribution function is absolutely continuous, and we prove that the distribution function is uniquely determined by the distribution of conditioned record values and by the expected values of these records. Further, different distributions are characterized by these relationships.  相似文献

Here we consider the record data from the two-parameter of bathtub-shaped distribution. First, we develop simplified forms for the single moments, variances and covariance of records. These distributional properties are quite useful in obtaining the best linear unbiased estimators of the location and scale parameters which can be included in the model. The estimation of the unknown shape parameters and prediction of the future unobserved records based on some observed ones are discussed. Frequentist and Bayesian analyses are adopted for conducting the estimation and prediction problems. The likelihood method, moment based method, bootstrap methods as well as the Bayesian sampling techniques are applied for the inference problems. The point predictors and credible intervals of future record values based on an informative set of records can be developed. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the so developed methods and one real data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of reconstructing past records from the known values of future records is investigated. Different methods are applied when the underlying distributions are Exponential and Pareto, and several reconstructors are obtained and then compared. A data set representing the record values of average July temperatures in Neuenburg, Switzerland, is used to illustrate the proposed procedure in the Pareto case. The results may be used for studying the past epoch times of non-homogeneous Poisson process or the past failure times in a reliability problem when the repair policy is minimal repair. N. Density and distribution functions are obtained for the product ofn independent Pareto variates with different parameters as well as for the quotient of two independent Pareto variates. Results are given in such a form that for several appropriate values of the parameters, both density and distribution functions can be tabulated.  相似文献

In this paper we have obtained the joint probability density function of concomitants of two record values and hence obtained an explicit expression for the product moment of concomitants of two record values arising from Morgenstern family of distributions. Appling this expression for the product moments of concomitants of record values we have derived the best linear unbiased estimators based on concomitants of record values of some parameters involved in Morgenstern type bivariate logistic distribution which is a subfamily of the Morgenstern family of distributions. The efficiencies of these estimators based on the first n concomitants of record values for n≤10 are also obtained.  相似文献

For the slope parameter of the classical errors-in-variables model, existing interval estimations with finite length will have confidence level equal to zero because of the Gleser–Hwang effect. Especially when the reliability ratio is low and the sample size is small, the Gleser–Hwang effect is so serious that it leads to the very liberal coverages and the unacceptable lengths of the existing confidence intervals. In this paper, we obtain two new fiducial intervals for the slope. One is based on a fiducial generalized pivotal quantity and we prove that this interval has the correct asymptotic coverage. The other fiducial interval is based on the method of the generalized fiducial distribution. We also construct these two fiducial intervals for the other parameters of interest of the classical errors-in-variables model and introduce these intervals to a hybrid model. Then, we compare these two fiducial intervals with the existing intervals in terms of empirical coverage and average length. Simulation results show that the two proposed fiducial intervals have better frequency performance. Finally, we provide a real data example to illustrate our approaches.  相似文献

The breakdown point in its different variants is one of the central notions to quantify the global robustness of a procedure. We propose a simple supplementary variant which is useful in situations where we have no obvious or only partial equivariance: Extending the Donoho and Huber (The notion of breakdown point, Wadsworth, Belmont, 1983) Finite Sample Breakdown Point?, we propose the Expected Finite Sample Breakdown Point to produce less configuration-dependent values while still preserving the finite sample aspect of the former definition. We apply this notion for joint estimation of scale and shape (with only scale-equivariance available), exemplified for generalized Pareto, generalized extreme value, Weibull, and Gamma distributions. In these settings, we are interested in highly-robust, easy-to-compute initial estimators; to this end we study Pickands-type and Location-Dispersion-type estimators and compute their respective breakdown points.  相似文献

In this paper we consider asmissible and minimax estimation of the parameter in the gamma distribution with truncated parameter space. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for minimaxity (Theorem 1) and obtain the classes of new minimax and asmissible estimators. The results of the paper can be applied to estimation of parameters in the normal, lognormal, Pareto, generalized gamma, generalized Laplace and other distributions.  相似文献

Without an interiority or strong survival assumption, an equilibrium may not exist in the standard Arrow–Debreu model. We propose a generalized concept of competitive equilibrium, called hierarchic equilibrium. Instead of using standard prices we use hierarchic prices. Existence will be shown without a strong survival assumption and without a non-satiation condition on the preferences. Under standard assumptions this reduces to the Walras equilibrium. Hierarchic equilibria are weakly Pareto optimal and any Pareto optimum can be decentralized without a border condition. We prove the existence of a Pareto optimal hierarchic equilibrium under additional assumptions. Later, we establish a core equivalence result.  相似文献
