The Effect of Acculturation on Reparative Behavior in Shame and Guilt Cultures

As the number of immigration and their later generations grow in the workforce of more developed Western countries, understanding the processes and consequences of acculturation has gained a new level of importance. An old and re-emerging issue is the morality and reparative behavior in Western versus Eastern cultures, as well as its antecedents and consequences. We examined the effects of acculturation on the perception of psychological proximity, the intensity of moral emotions of shame and guilt, and the degree of compensation to victims of one＇s wrongdoing. Our sample was comprised of a collectivistic group from a shame culture, China, and an acculturated group of Chinese living in a much less collectivistic society of a guilt culture, Canada. Our results indicated that participants＇ perception of psychological proximity to other people and the level of compensation offered to the victims of transgression were significantly different among the two samples. Furthermore, shame and guilt mediated the relationship between perceived psychological proximity and the decision to compensate differently.

1. Characteristic of the supervision mode of ＂Local Declaration ＆ Port Clearance＂
This new mode means that the consignor, consignee or agent （hereafter referred to as ＂declarant＂） could choose any competent customs under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Customs to make declaration and go through the formalities of document-checking and duty-paying, and then finish the cargo-examination and cargo-release at the customs office of entry or exit. The new mode separates the declaration of declarant and the examination of customs. Therefore, it saves the cost on declaration and transportation and inures to the management of customs.

Measures for the Administration of Prohibited and Restricted Import of Technologies

In accordance with the Foreign Trade Law of the People＇s Republic of China and the Regulations o）c the People＇s Republic of China on the Administration of Import and Export of Technologies, the revised Measures for the Admin-istration of Prohibited and Restricted Import of Technologies is hereby promulgated, which shall take effect 30 days there- after. The Measures for the Administration of Prohibited ana Restricted Import of Technologies （the former Degree No. 18 [2001] of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and the State Economic and Trade Commission） is abolished at the same time.

On August 26, China-Ukraine Local Cooperation Forum, jointly sponsored by CCPIT and Ukraine Chamber of Commerce and Industry （UCCI） was held in Kiev, Ukraine. The Influence on Language Variation from Society and Social Psychology

Language variation, a kind of language form diverging from the language norm, is a common speech phenomenon and the focus of sociolinguistic studies. It is closely linked with society and social psychology. Not only is it controlled by complex social factors, but also influenced by various kinds of social psychology: the psychology of seeking curiosity and change, the psychology of avoiding vulgar language and seeking elegant language, the psychology of sexual differences between male and female, the psychology of worship, the psychology of adaptation and so on. People have complex social psychology and language is subject to variation. It is possible to further understand the way and the regulation of language variation only by linking society and social psychology to study language variation.     

Survey on Current Conditions of and Intention for Outbound Investment by Chinese Enterprises （Part Ⅱ）

Executive Summary
After two preliminary trials in 2005 and 2006, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade （CCPIT） conducted the ＂Survey on Current Conditions of and Intention for Outbound Investment by Chinese Enterprises＂ from December of 2008 to February of 2009. We standardized the samples and enlarged the scale to present an in-depth landscape of the current conditions of and intention for outbound investment by Chinese enterprises as China adopts the ＂Going Global＂ strategy to encourage outbound investment, and the development of outbound investment by comparing the results of this survey and the previous two surveys.

The Effect of Board Characteristics on a Firm＇s Strategic Change

The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the characteristics of the board of directors and strategic change of a firm in the Chinese context. In this study, strategic change is defined as strategic deviation relative to industry norms and strategic variation relative to historical experiences. The size, independence and leadership structure of the board of directors are defined as the board characteristics. We then propose hypotheses on the effects of board characteristics on a firm＇s strategic change. This study takes strategic resource allocation profile as measure to calculate strategic deviation and strategic variation, and then empirically tests and verifies the hypotheses using data from Chinese publicly listed companies in the information technology industry from the year 2006 to 2010. We find that the size, independence and leadership structure of the board of directors significantly affect both strategic deviation and strategic variation. Therefore, we conclude that board characteristic affects a firm＇s strategic change. The conclusion of the study indicates that moderate reductions in the size of the board, increasing the proportion of independent directors and separating the roles of chairman and chief executive officer can facilitate promoting the process of strategic change for a firm in a dynamic environment. Through this study we re-examine the role and significance of the board of directors in strategic decision-making for a firm, and provide useful suggestions on how to form a board that can meet the needs for strategic change for a firm in a dynamic business environment.

Target identification capability index analysis of weapon equipment systems

Target identification capability is a major research aspect of weapon systems’ combat capability, the result of what can be used to direct the development of the weapon and equipment. This paper proposes the structure of target identification capability index and primarily analyzes three capabilities’ index of target recognition process, including target detection capability, target classification capability and target confirmation capability. Then, computation or statistic method of the index is given. This study enriches the theories and methods of target identification capability and can be used to guide effectiveness evaluation of weapon systems and improve the combat capability of systems.
