Summary This paper presents a method for the estimation of parameters of random closed sets (racs’s) in ℝ d based on a single realization within a (large) convex sampling window. The essential idea first applied by Diggle (1981) in a special case consists in defining the estimation by minimizing a suitably defined distance (called contrast function) between the true and the empirical contact distribution function of the racs under consideration, where the most relevant case of Boolean models is discussed in details. The resulting estimates are shown to be strongly consistent (if the racs is ergodic) and asymptotically normal (if the racs is Boolean) when the sampling window expands unboundedly.  相似文献

In this paper, the maximum likelihood predictor (MLP) of the kth ordered observation, t k, in a sample of size n from a two-parameter exponential distribution as well as the predictive maximum likelihood estimators (PMLE's) of the location and scale parameters, θ and β, based on the observed values t r, …, t s (1≤rs<kn), are obtained in closed forms, contrary to the belief they cannot be so expressed. When θ is known, however, the PMLE of β and MLP of t k do not admit explicit expressions. It is shown here that they exist and are unique; sharp lower and upper bounds are also provided. The derived predictors and estimators are reasonable and also have good asymptotic properties. As applications, the total duration time in a life test and the failure time of a k-out-of-n system may be predicted. Finally, an illustrative example is included. Received: August 1999  相似文献

We study the problem of predicting future k-records based on k-record data for a large class of distributions, which includes several well-known distributions such as: Exponential, Weibull (one parameter), Pareto, Burr type XII, among others. With both Bayesian and non-Bayesian approaches being investigated here, we pay more attention to Bayesian predictors under balanced type loss functions as introduced by Jafari Jozani et al. (Stat Probab Lett 76:773–780, 2006a). The results are presented under the balanced versions of some well-known loss functions, namely squared error loss, Varian’s linear-exponential loss and absolute error loss or L 1 loss functions. Some of the previous results in the literatures such as Ahmadi et al. (Commun Stat Theory Methods 34:795–805, 2005), and Raqab et al. (Statistics 41:105–108, 2007) can be achieved as special cases of our results. Combined-optimal designs (Li and Lin, 2003) are obviously the best choices for the initial designs if we partition the experiment into two parts with equal size to obtain some information about the process, especially for the case not considering the blocking factor. In this paper, the definition of combined-optimal design is extended to the case when blocking factor is significant, and this new class of designs is called blocked combined-optimal designs. Some general results are obtained which relate 2kpIII initial designs with their complementary designs when , where n=2kp. By applying these results, we are able to characterize 2kpIII combined-optimal designs or blocked combined-optimal designs in terms of their complementary designs. It is also proved that both 2kpIII combined-optimal and blocked combined-optimal designs are not minimum aberration designs when and n−1−k > 2. Abstract In the financial literature, the problem of maximizing the expected utility of the terminal wealth has been investigated extensively (for a survey, see, e.g., Karatzas and Shreve (1998), p. 153, and references therein) by using different approaches. In this paper, we extend the existing literature in two directions. First, we let the utility function U(.) of the financial agent (who is a price taker) be implicitly defined through I(.)=(U (.))–1, which is assumed to be additively separable, i.e., I(.)=∑ k=1 N I k (.). Second, we solve the investment problem in the general affine term structure model proposed by Duffie and Kan (1996) in which the functions I k (.), k=1,...,N are associated to HARA utility functions (with possibly different risk aversion parameters), and we show that the utility maximization problem leads to a Riccati ODE. Moreover, we extend to the multi-factor framework the stability result proved in Grasselli (2003), namely, the almost-sure convergence of the solution with respect to the parameters of the utility function. Parisian options are path-dependent options whose payoff depends on whether the underlying asset’s price remains continuously at or above a given barrier over a given time interval. Costabile’s (Decis Econ Finance 25(2):111–125, 2002b) algorithm for pricing Parisian options based on a combinatorial approach in binomial tree has a time complexity of O( n3){O\left( {n^{3}}\right)}. We improve that algorithm to yield one with a time complexity of only O(n2){O\left({n^{2}}\right)}.  相似文献

Draper and Guttman (1997) shows that for basic 2k−p designs, p≥0, kp replicates of blocks designs of size two are needed to estimate all the usual (estimable) effects. In this work, we provide an algebraic formal proof for the two-level blocks designs results and present results applicable to the general case; that is, for the case of s k factorial (p=0) or s k−p fractional factorial (p >0) designs in s b blocks, where 0<b<kp, at least replicates are needed to clear up all possible effects. Through the theoretical development presented in this work, it can provide a clearer view on why those results would hold. It needs the additional assumption that rank (Σ n) =k forn sufficiently large. In this article, we show that Moore’s result (as corrected) holds under somewhat different, but easier to verify, assumptions. We considerk (≥2) independent negative exponential populations with unknown location parameters and unknown but equal scale parameter. We incorporate the existing purely sequential and three-stage sampling procedures for selecting the “best” population and study the asymptotic second-order characteristics of the proposed fixed-size simultaneous confidence regions for the location parameters constructed after selection and ranking. Summary A fixed sample size procedure for selecting the ‘best’ ofk negative binomial populations is developed. Selection is made in such a way that the probability of correct selection is at leastP* whenever the distance between the probabilities of success is at leastδ*. The exponentr is assumed to be known and the same for all populations. Extensive computer calculations* were employed to obtain the exact least favorable configuration. The smallest sample sizes needed to meet specifications (P*,δ*) are tabulated forr=1 (1)5;δ*=0.05 (0.05) 0.55 andP*=0.75, 0.80, 0.90, 0.95, 0.98, 0.99 involvingk=3 (1) 6, 8, 10 populations. All the computations were carried out on the Alabama Supercomputer. This paper is devoted to the study of the least squares estimator of f for the classical, fixed design, nonlinear model X (t i)=f(t i)+ε(t i), i=1,2,…,n, where the (ε(t i))i=1,…,n are independent second order r.v.. The estimation of f is based upon a given parametric form. In Brodeau (1993) this subject has been studied in the homoscedastic case. This time we assume that the ε(t i) have non constant and unknown variances σ2(t i). Our main goal is to develop two statistical tests, one for testing that f belongs to a given class of functions possibly discontinuous in their first derivative, and another for comparing two such classes. The fundamental tool is an approximation of the elements of these classes by more regular functions, which leads to asymptotic properties of estimators based on the least squares estimator of the unknown parameters. We point out that Neubauer and Zwanzig (1995) have obtained interesting results for connected subjects by using the same technique of approximation. Received: February 1996  相似文献

This article deals with the prediction problem in linear regression where the measurements are obtained using k different devices or collected from k different independent sources. For the case of k=2, a Graybill-Deal type combined estimtor for the regression parameters is shown to dominate the individual least squares estimators under the covariance criterion. Two predictors ŷ c and ŷ p are proposed. ŷ c is based on a combined estimator of the regression coefficient vector, and ŷ p is obtained by combining the individual predictors from different models. Prediction mean square errors of both predictors are derived. It is shown that the predictor ŷ p is better than the individual predictors for k≥2 and the predictor ŷ c is better than the individual predictors for k=2. Numerical comparison between ŷ c and ŷ p shows that the former is superior to the latter for the case k=2.  相似文献

Both point and interval estimation procedures for the largest mean are proposed by means of sequential and three-stage procedures.
