Multi-period location of flow intercepting portable facilities of an intelligent transportation system

Intelligent transportation systems are of great importance in urban traffic management. In this context variable message signs (VMS) play a major role in providing drivers with useful information during their trips.In this paper we consider the problem of finding the optimal location of a set of portable VMS on an urban network where flow patterns change during a time horizon.We propose two original solving approaches based on flow intercepting facility location ILP models.The paper presents an application of the proposed approaches to real-like test networks and discusses the results obtained providing some indications on their practical applications.

目前,业界对认证风险的关注度日益上升,但如何进行认证风险管理仍然是一个值得探讨的问题。文章详细阐述了管理体系认证风险管理的全过程,对于危害辨识、危害判定、损害分析、风险估计、风险评价、风险控制、剩余风险评价、风险／受益分析、由风险控制措施产生的风险、综合剩余风险的可接受性评价、风险管理结论、认证及认证后的有关信息等方面的操作模式做了详细的设计,构成了较为完善的认证风险管理模式。     

Investigations on the life quality of a child from a foster family: the research method

The paper presents some investigations on the life quality of orphaned children placed in foster families in Poland. The author’s own method with the elements of original survey investigations was presented. Consecutive steps on constructing the investigation method were presented. Firstly the investigation goals were set, the subject of investigations was selected and then the form of a questionnaire was suggested. It was essential to choose factual issue to construct the research tool. Two groups of respondents were appointed: children and foster parents. Two research questionnaire forms were presented and their application conditions were highlighted. The method was verified in practice upon the selected representative families. The effectiveness of the method was assessed considering some external factors which appeared during the investigations. The role of the researcher and his influence upon the obtained results was emphasized. It was stressed that the cooperation with the social worker who runs the foster family program during the investigations was of crucial importance. In conclusions the suggested research method was assessed and its weak points were featured. Some suggestions aiming at improving both the method and the research tool in the form of a questionnaire were recommended.

随着网络技术应用的普及,在身份认证的过程中,认证系统的可扩展性、访问效率、安全可靠性等各方面都是需要考虑的问题,而采用相应的目录结构和目录安全机制能有效解决这些问题,本文针认证信息存储模块主要包含的内容,提出了一些可行的方案,并加以分析、总结。

HMIS在医院现代信息化经营管理过程中,已经逐渐被医院所采用。本文分析了内部审计应用于医院管理信息系统的作用,了解到内部审计是管理信息系统有效发挥作用的关键环节。分析了HMIS内部审计的主要方法和应用情况,指出,在应用HMIS以后,应该找到其与医院管理的切合点,从而加强医院管理信息系统内部审计监督和质量控制。     

Binary choice models with discrete regressors: Identification and misspecification

This paper explores the inferential question in semiparametric binary response models when the continuous support condition is not satisfied and all regressors have discrete support. I focus mainly on the models under the conditional median restriction, as in Manski (1985). I find sharp bounds on the components of the parameter of interest and outline several applications. The formulas for bounds obtained using a recursive procedure help analyze cases where one regressor’s support becomes increasingly dense. Furthermore, I investigate asymptotic properties of estimators of the identification set. I describe a relation between the maximum score estimation and support vector machines and propose several approaches to address the problem of empty identification sets when the model is misspecified.     

A support methodology for EAI and BPM projects in SMEs

This paper presents a support methodology that facilitates the analysis of shared information between applications. The contemporary needs of information systems within companies rely on the integration of different applications. As a consequence, integration projects called EAI (enterprise application integration) and BPM (business process management) have arisen. These projects need support methodologies to facilitate the process of information integration. The aforementioned methodology also helps companies to align management applications with their business processes and to define the integration of the company's information systems.     

overview of OR techniques for airline revenue management

With the increasing interest in decision support systems and the continuous advance of computer science, revenue management is a discipline which has received a great deal of interest in recent years. Although revenue management has seen many new applications throughout the years, the main focus of research continues to be the airline industry. Ever since LITTLEWOOD (1972) first proposed a solution method for the airline revenue management problem, a variety of solution methods have been introduced. In this paper we give an overview of the solution methods presented throughout the literature.

Strategic imperatives,power and subsidiary performance: the transfer of human resource management practices in multinational companies operating in Poland's post‐socialist banking industry

We examine the extent to which institutional influences account for the transfer of performance management systems in two foreign‐owned banks, one German the other Irish, in Poland. While we find they were important, more important were the joint effects arising from the subsidiaries' times‐of‐acquisition, their pre‐acquisition economic health, the international experience of the MNCs' management, headquarters‐generated strategic imperatives and the political dynamics that ensued between corporate and local management.

Can voluntary environmental regulation promote corporate technological innovation?

The impact of environmental regulation on technological innovation has been widely discussed in the academic circle. Based on the panel data of 403 Chinese manufacturing firms from 2010 to 2015, this paper explored the role of voluntary environmental regulation in technological innovation. The results showed the following: First, both voluntary environmental information disclosure and environmental management system certification had a positive effect on corporate innovation investment. Second, compared with the impact of environmental information disclosure, the impact of environmental management system certification on corporate innovation investment was more significant. Third, there was a significant positive interaction between environmental information disclosure and environmental management system certification. Finally, the effect of voluntary environmental regulation on corporate technological innovation in heavily polluting industries was stronger than that in lightly polluting industries.     

Capacitated heuristic program for multiactivity, multi-facility system designs

Multi-activity, multi-facility design systems occur in a wide variety of industrial and service applications: e.g.: regional health care centers with configurations of activities at each center, and multi-echelon inventory distribution systems. The problem in designing such systems is to determine from a candidate set of possible locations what facility locations should be opened and what types of activities should be carried out at each of the open facilities. This article presents an efficient heuristic procedure for such a problem.The heuristic procedure described can be used to solve both the uncapacitated and the capacitated problems where capacity is expressed in terms of the number of activities which can be supported by the facilities.Extensive computational experience with the heuristic is presented. The performance of the heuristic is compared against optimal solutions and the results look very encouraging.     

Expert systems in production management: An assessment

Over the last several years expert systems (ES) have gained almost sensational interest. Within business administration, production management might be one of the most fruitful application areas for ES. There already exist a number of interesting pilot systems, and reports of research projects are beginning to appear in the literature.The main goal of this study is to identify systematically those areas in production management where an ES approach might be most promising. This is important to both researchers and practitioners because it helps pinpoint where research and development resources would be best allocated.In this article the authors provide a taxonomy for production management activities. They then combine this taxonomy with a well-known list of eight “expert tasks” to provide what they call an “applications map” to guide the discussion.After discussing existing research efforts and potential production management applications of expert systems, the authors employ a Likert scoring procedure to quantify their subjective ratings as to problem importance, potential for improved solution, and ease of development, for expert systems development efforts in a given production management decision situation.One conclusion here is that the applicability of expert systems to production management appears to be broadly based. This is particularly true for what the authors have labeled as “technological” activities. An interesting finding is the apparent lack of applicability of expert systems to inventory management. The authors found no existing system or research proposals applying expert systems to inventory management. Finally, systems that combine technological with logistical knowledge seem to be a fertile (but difficult) application area for ES.     

Improved implementation of inventory control models through equivalent formulations

This paper summarizes an actual multi-item periodic-review inventory control study conducted in a developing country. The firms of developing countries are usually less fortunate than their counterparts in industrialized countries in terms of management information systems, personnel and other infrastructure to successfully implement the results of research studies. Therefore, the management scientists of these countries are more obliged to formulate managerial problems in such a way that “decision-framing” models thus developed require the least estimating and updating efforts possible, yet not sacrifice much from the optimal solution which otherwise could have been obtained. In this study, two formulations of an actualinventory control problem, one much easier and less costly to implement than the other, are shown to be equivalent with respect to the optimal solution. This result offers an instrument for implementation improvements in inventory control systems.

Pains and gains of environmental management system certification for the sustainable development of manufacturing companies: Heterogeneous effects of industry peer learning

Environmental sustainability is a growing global concern. Environmental management systems (EMS) could be an effective strategic tool to help firms deal with their sustainable development. However, whether EMS certification pays off financially and how it takes effect can be debated. Thus far, these questions remain largely under‐researched. In particular, the effects of EMS certification on financial performance are inconclusive, and the reasons explaining the effects are underdeveloped. This study aims to enrich the current research by exploring the mediating and moderating roles from the perspective of cost‐efficiency trade‐offs to reveal how EMS certification affects financial performance. Applying a PROCESS procedure analysis and causal mediation analysis to a sample of 1,751 Chinese listed manufacturing firms from 2008 to 2016, this study shows that the effect of EMS certification on firms' financial performance is insignificant because their operating costs burden increases while their marketing efficiency and managerial efficiency improve. For the first time, this study demonstrates the moderating role of industry peer learning, as the mediating effects decrease with the growth of industry peer learning.
