Repertoire Conventionality in Major US Symphony Orchestras: Factors Influencing Management's Programming Choices

We examined the relationship between funding sources and programming for major US symphony orchestras for the 2001 through 2007 seasons. We find that increased levels of funding from the federal government and businesses encourage more nonconventional programming, and increased levels of funding from local government and endowments encourage more conventional programming. In addition, yearly events such as a composer's anniversary and higher unemployment influence programming decisions. Given the challenging financial environment for symphony orchestras, we discussed programming choices that managers could implement to reduce budget deficits. Object-oriented econometrics: Matrix programming in C++ using GCC and newmat

Object-oriented programming using C++ offers features that can be as beneficial for econometricians as they are for other programmers. This review considers the standard programming paradigm and then discusses object-oriented programming, in particular the C++ language. Both GCC, a C++ compiler available free of charge from the GNU Project, and the newmat matrix class library are reviewed. 公众参与城市规划是城市居民能够直接而积极地参与城市规划、成为规划制定和规划实施过程中一个重要的组成部分.它对于减少规划失误、促进规划的顺利实施及监督规划部门依法行政具有独特的法律价值.公众参与城市规划的原因在于解决规划失灵问题,是恢复个人利益与公共利益平衡的重要杠杆.借鉴各国公众参与制度,我国的公众参与机制应从城市规划信息公开、赋予社会公众参与城市规划的主体地位、确立公众参与城市规划的程序、明确公众参与城市规划的方式以及强化公众参与城市规划的司法保障等方面进行建构.     

基于动态规划改进求解VRP问题节约法的DSM模型及其拓展分析

提出了改进求解VRP问题节约法的DSM模型(动态规划节约法),将代表启发式算法的节约法与代表精确算法的动态规划相结合,建立不断增加节约量的动态规划数学模型,使其得到全局最优解。该法计算过程平稳收敛,对增加约束条件的情况更易接受。     

Regional economic models and continuous programming

This paper is concerned with an optimal investment allocation problem in a simple N-regional economic model. The problem is described as a class of optimal control problem, and formulated into a continuous linear programming problem. Both the primal and dual problems are considered. The procedure finds an optimal regional allocation of investment derived in terms of continuous programming.

Some Applications of Input–Output Analysis in a Gold Mine

In this paper, some applications of a mixed physical-financial input–output model for a large gold mine in China are described. This mixed input–output model is a basic part of the mine's decision-making system, called an interactive and hierarchical multi-objective feedback decision-making system of the gold mine's production and management. The model is used for the following: (1) to analyze quantitatively how the changes in the economic, technical and geological factors affect the mine's production and management; (2) to search for a series of bottleneck components in the mine when the capacities of some components of the mine change; (3) to optimize mine planning with the help of mathematical programming (linear programming, 0–1 programming) and computer simulation.     

On solving a linear program with one quadratic constraint

A solution procedure for linear programs with one convex quadratic constraint is suggested. The method finds an optimal solution in finitely many iterations.Fractional programming, quadratic programming.

A goal programming model for achieving racial balance in public schools

This paper develops a goal programming model for achieving racial balance in segregated public schools. The model is illustrated and offered as an improvement upon linear programming, a model previously applied in the literature which allows a single objective function only and, in comparison with goal programming, requires more variables and constraints. Goal programming, a member of the general multiple objective linear programming (MOLP) model, improves upon these among other disadvantages thereby emerging as a more efficient tool for student assignment problems.

A fractile programming approach with extreme sample estimates of parameters

Abstract This paper investigates the implications of extreme value estimates of net prices in the objective function of a linear programming problem. Analytically, our approach suggests interesting points of comparison between different measures of sensitivity of a linear programming problem, when a specified fractile of the distribution of profits is optimized.

一种基于线段树的动态规划优化算法

动态规划是解决多阶段决策最优化问题的一种思想方法，也是ACM程序设计竞赛中常用的算法。本文首先讨论了动态规划的基本思想和解题步骤。但基本动态规划对于数据规模很大的问题，在解题过程中还是存在效率和占用空间非常大的问题，本文巧妙利用线段树优化动态规划，提高对大规模数据处理的方法和技巧，在线段树基础上利用树状数组合理地解决了动态规划占用大量内存的问题。     

使用E-learning的翻转课堂模式在编程类课程中的实践

传统编程类课程教学以教师课堂讲解知识为主,学生主动学习的积极性不高。翻转课堂模式强调学生通过E-learning进行课外自主学习,将更多的课堂时间用于练习和完成作业,教师可更有针对性地辅导学生。通过在编程类课程引入翻转课堂模式,对比分析表明翻转课堂能有效提高中等基础以上学生的学习效果。     

STOCHASTIC INTEGER PROGRAMMING BY DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING

Stochastic integer programming is a suitable tool for modeling hierarchical decision situations with combinatorial features. In continuation of our work on the design and analysis of heuristics for such problems, we now try to find optimal solutions. Dynamic programming techniques can be used to exploit the structure of two–stage scheduling, bin packing and multiknapsack problems. Numerical results for small instances of these problems are presented.     

Portfolio Selection under Maximum Minimum Criterion

In this paper, we studied the problem of risky portfolio selection under uncertainty. Different from risk-return analytical methodology, we formulated a model under maximum minimal criterion of uncertain decision-making theory. If the investor had no any distribution information of the returns and (s)he knew the variation scopes of the returns by his/her knowledge of the market information or experts’ evaluations of the alternative risky assets, then we showed that the optimal portfolio strategy of the model under maximal minimal criterion could be obtained by solving linear programming. If the returns were known to be normal distributed, the investor’s optimal portfolio strategy could be obtained by solving a nonlinear programming. The paper also provided an algorithm to solve this programming. At last, the paper compared this model with Markowitz’s mean-varience (M-V) model and Young’s minmax model, and pointed out the distinctions and similarities between our model and the other two. Goal programming solutions to transportation problems with variable supply and demand requirements

This article deals with goal programming as an aid to resolving transportation problems. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the use of goal programming as an approach to reducing total cost in transportation problems that possess variable supply and demand requirements. A generalized goal programming model is formulated and applied to a series of transportation problem situations based on the empirical data provided by a medium-size trucking firm. Comparison of the results demonstrates the cost advantage of using the goal programming model in place of the transportation method and integer interval linear programming.
