Why do parents make their children work? A test of the poverty hypothesis in rural areas of Burkina Faso

It is often argued that child labour is caused by poverty. However,much child labour takes place in rural areas characterized bysubstantial labour market imperfections. A model of rural householdlabour supply is developed that provides testable implicationsfor two versions of the poverty hypothesis: that child labouris due to a binding subsistence constraint and that child leisureis a luxury good. We find that in rural Burkina Faso childrendo not provide labour to meet households' subsistence needsand that child leisure is a normal good. The evidence suggeststhat labour market imperfections are a main reason for usingchild labour.

Study on the Efficiency of Fund Allocation of Listed Companies in the Process of Industrial Structure Adjustment

Through the analysis of the accomplishment of trade fund allocation and industrial structure adjustment, we find there are big differences in the efficiency of using the trade fund of listed companies. It is very important to optimize the trade allocation of the fund. As to the efficiency of allocating the trade funds, the two indexes, trade competition and enterprises technology have the strong instructive meaning. And the trade assets with characters of resource monopoly and consumption particularity are used most effectively. While promoting the industrial structure adjustment of listed companies in the future, we should consider the competitive situation of the trade and the technological situations of enterprises in the companies＇ access and in the fund allocation sufficiently. This paper puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions to solve the problems of the unreasonable allocation of trade fund in companies coming into market, the low effect of the use of the whole fund in listed companies, etc.     

Is the Chinese Economy Moving in the Direction of Tertiarization？

Drawing upon output, employment, consumption and trade data, this article examtnes whether there is an economic tertiarization trend in China ＇s economy and evaluates the common factors driving current trends. It shows that the tertiarization trend is evident for the overall economy and most regions in terms of the service nominal value-added ratio and service employment and consumption. However, the tertiarization trend is not significant in terms of the service real value-added ratio, and there is even some concurrent ＂detertiarization ＂ because of the decreasing proportion of services in imports and exports. lndeed, China ＇s tertiarization trend is far behind its industrialization trend The rise in the relative prices of services explains the rising proportion of household service consumption expenditure and further illuminates why the service real value-added ratio has not grown. The main cause for the growing percentage of service employment is the lag in service labor productivity growth in interaction with the price inelasticity of service demand ＂Cost disease ＂ has appeared in service consumption.
