Summary Considering a mixed effects model in a minimally connected block design set-up, we obtain designs which areE-optimal, uniformly in the ratio of the variance components, for inference on varietal contrasts which constitute the fixed effects in the model. In this paper, we provide an intensive review of the recent developments for semiparametric and fully nonparametric panel data models that are linearly separable in the innovation and the individual-specific term. We analyze these developments under two alternative model specifications: fixed and random effects panel data models. More precisely, in the random effects setting, we focus our attention in the analysis of some efficiency issues that have to do with the so-called working independence condition. This assumption is introduced when estimating the asymptotic variance–covariance matrix of nonparametric estimators. In the fixed effects setting, to cope with the so-called incidental parameters problem, we consider two different estimation approaches: profiling techniques and differencing methods. Furthermore, we are also interested in the endogeneity problem and how instrumental variables are used in this context. In addition, for practitioners, we also show different ways of avoiding the so-called curse of dimensionality problem in pure nonparametric models. In this way, semiparametric and additive models appear as a solution when the number of explanatory variables is large.  相似文献

We consider the problem of comparison of one test treatment (τ0) with a set of v control treatments (τ1, τ2, …, τv) using distance optimality [DS-optimality] criterion introduced by Sinha (1970) in some treatment-connected design settings. It turns out that the nature of DS-optimal designs is quite similar to that for the usual A−, D− and E− optimality criteria. However, the optimality problem is quite complicated in most situations. First we deal with the CRD model and derive DS-optimal allocations for a given set of treatments. The results are almost identical to the A-optimal allocations for such problems. Then we consider a block design set-up and examine the nature of DS-optimal designs. In the process, we introduce the method of weighted coverage probability and maximize the resulting expression to obtain an optimal design. Received: December 1999  相似文献

The literature on neighbor designs as introduced by Rees (Biometrics 23:779–791, 1967) is mainly devoted to construction methods, providing few results on their statistical properties, such as efficiency and optimality. A review of the available literature, with special emphasis on the optimality of neighbor designs under various fixed effects interference models, is given in Filipiak and Markiewicz (Commun Stat Theory Methods 46:1127–1143, 2017). The aim of this paper is to verify whether the designs presented by Filipiak and Markiewicz (2017) as universally optimal under fixed interference models are still universally optimal under models with random interference effects. Moreover, it is shown that for a specified covariance matrix of random interference effects, a universally optimal design under mixed interference models with block effects is universally optimal over a wider class of designs. In this paper the method presented by Filipiak and Markiewicz (Metrika 65:369–386, 2007) is extended and then applied to mixed interference models without or with block effects.  相似文献

Screening designs are useful for situations where a large number of factors are examined but only a few, k, of them are expected to be important. Traditionally orthogonal arrays such as Hadamard matrices and Plackett Burman designs have been studied for this purpose. It is therefore of practical interest for a given k to know all the classes of inequivalent projections of the design into the k dimensions that have certain statistical properties. In this paper we present 15 inequivalent Hadamard matrices of order n=32 constructed from circulant cores. We study their projection properties using several well-known statistical criteria and we provide minimum generalized aberration 2 level designs with 32 runs and up to seven factors that are embedded into these Hadamard matrices. Deng and Tang (1999) proposed the generalized minimum aberration (GMA) criterion to assess fractional factorial designs, and a design with GMA is often regarded as the best. However, there exist situations where some other designs may suit practical needs better. In this article, we propose an algorithm to sequentially examine designs obtained from Hadamard matrices under estimation capacity (EC) and provide designs with maximum or high EC for various combinations of run-size and number-of-factors. A supersaturated design is essentially a fractional factorial in which the number of potential effects is greater than the number of runs. In this paper, E(f NOD ) criterion is employed for comparing supersaturated designs from the viewpoint of orthogonality and uniformity, and a lower bound of E(f NOD ) which can serve as a benchmark of design optimality is obtained. It is shown that the existing E(s 2) and ave 2 criteria (for two- and three-level supersaturated designs respectively) are in fact special cases of this criterion. Furthermore, a construction method for mixed-level supersaturated designs is proposed and some properties of the resulting designs are investigated. This paper generalizes Kunert and Martin’s (Ann Stat 28:1728–1742, 2000) method for finding optimal designs under a fixed interference model, to find optimal designs under a mixed interference model. The results are based on the properties of information matrices in fixed and mixed models given in Markiewicz (J Stat Plan Inference 59:127–137, 1997). A problem of allocation of measurements for a linear calibration process is considered in this article. It is assumed that a total of N measurements are made some of which may be measurements on two distinct standards, while the remaining measurements are on m different unknown specimens. We discuss allocation of the N measurements for the two standards and m unknown specimens based on A-optimality criterion, which is applied to asymptotic variances of maximum likelihood estimators for the true values of unknown specimens. It can be shown that the optimal allocation depends on the true values of unknown specimens. Hence, the user may resort to locally or Bayesian A-optimal measurement designs. Some practical solution is presented. Furthermore, the impact of prior on the allocation is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper examines nested 2 ×2 row-column designs when within-block observations are assumed to be dependent. The model considered has fixed block effects, which may also include row and/or column effects. Optimal binary and non-binary designs, constructed from semi-balanced arrays, are given under both generalised and ordinary least squares estimation. It is shown that binary designs are optimal when dependence is low. In general, however, the optimal designs are highly specific to the correlation values. Received: October 1999  相似文献

It is shown that fractional factorial plans represented by orthogonal arrays of strength three are universally optimal under a model that includes the mean, all main effects and all two-factor interactions between a specified factor and each of the other factors. Thus, such plans exhibit a kind of model robustness in being universally optimal under two different models. Procedures for obtaining universally optimal block designs for fractional factorial plans represented by orthogonal arrays are also discussed. Acknowledgements. In this paper optimal designs for the estimation of the fixed effects (population parameters) in a certain class of mixed models are investigated. Two classes of designs are compared: the class of single-group designs, where all individuals are observed under the same approximate design, and the class of more-group designs with the same mean number of observations per individual as before, where each individual can be observed under a different approximate design. It is shown that any design that is Φ-optimal in the class of single-group designs is also Φ-optimal in the larger class of more-group designs. The considered optimality criteria only have to satisfy mild assumptions, which is eg the case for the D-criterion and all linear criteria.  相似文献

Optimal designs under general dependence structures are usually difficult to specify theoretically or find algorithmically. However, they can sometimes be found for a specific dependence structure and a particular parameter value. In this paper, a class of generalized binary block designs with t treatments and b blocks of size k>t is considered. Each block consists of h consecutive complete blocks and, at the end, an incomplete block of size kht (if k > ht). For a suitable number of blocks, a universally optimal design is found for a first-order stationary autoregressive process with positive correlations. Optimal generalized binary designs and balanced block designs are also considered. Some constructions for a universally optimal design are described. A negative dependence parameter, and some other dependence structures, are also considered.  相似文献

Combined-optimal designs (Li and Lin, 2003) are obviously the best choices for the initial designs if we partition the experiment into two parts with equal size to obtain some information about the process, especially for the case not considering the blocking factor. In this paper, the definition of combined-optimal design is extended to the case when blocking factor is significant, and this new class of designs is called blocked combined-optimal designs. Some general results are obtained which relate 2kpIII initial designs with their complementary designs when , where n=2kp. By applying these results, we are able to characterize 2kpIII combined-optimal designs or blocked combined-optimal designs in terms of their complementary designs. It is also proved that both 2kpIII combined-optimal and blocked combined-optimal designs are not minimum aberration designs when and n−1−k > 2. This article presents discussions on the optimal and robust designs for trigonometric regression models under different optimality criteria. First, we investigate the classical Q-optimal designs for estimating the response function in a full trigonometric regression model with a given order. The equivalencies of Q-, A-, and G-optimal designs for trigonometric regression in general are also articulated. Second, we study minimax designs and their implementation in the case of trigonometric approximation under Q-, A-, and D-optimality. Then, We indicate the existence of the symmetric designs that are D-optimal minimax designs for general trigonometric regression models, and prove the existence of the symmetric designs that are Q- or A-optimal minimax designs for two particular trigonometric regression models under certain conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the exact D-optimal designs for estimation of the unknown parameters in the two factors, each at only two-level, main effects model with autocorrelated errors. The vector of the n random errors in the observed responses is assumed to follow a first-order autoregressive model (AR(1)). The exact D-optimal designs seek the optimal combinations of the design levels as well as the optimal run orders, so that the determinant of the information matrix of BLUEs for the unknown parameters is maximized. Bora-Senta and Moyssiadis (1999) gave some conjectures about the exact D-optimal designs based on their experience of several exhaustive searches. Dey and Midha (Biometrika 83(2):484–489, 1996) constructed optimal block designs for complete diallel cross experiment using triangular partially balanced incomplete block designs with two associate classes. They listed optimal block designs for the lines in the range from 5 ≤ v ≤ 10. In this paper, we are also proposing additional optimal block designs for complete diallel cross experiment using two associate class partially balanced block designs for some additional values of v. Our method yields designs for proper and non-proper settings for complete diallel cross experiments. The proper and non proper designs are optimal in the sense of Kempthorne (Genetics 41:451–459, 1956) and non-proper designs are universally optimal in the sense of Kiefer (A survey of statistical design and linear models, North Holland, Amsterdam, 1975).
