An Asymmetric Oligopolist can Improve Welfare by Raising Price

We demonstrate that, in Bertrand/Cournot equilibrium, a firm with a relatively small market share may improve social welfare by raising its price. This could be because the price increase can mitigate an output-structure distortion: if there are two goods which have the same marginal cost, then, under some conditions, the good in higher demand (the efficient good) will have a higher markup rate than the other good (the inefficient good). This suggests that the output structure is distorted in favor of the inefficient good, since the higher markup rate of the efficient good should lead to a considerable increase in demand for the inefficient good.     

Commercial Real Estate Returns

In the commercial real estate market, which is perceived to be relatively inefficient, investors have comparative advantages; hence there are significant costs to diversification. This paper presents for the first time a series of market (or quasi-market) returns for a large data base. This data base is believed to be the most complete commercial real estate data base yet constructed. The paper empirically evaluates the benefits of diversification along various dimensions within the commercial real estate opportunity set. The analysis confirms certain aspects of prior work concerning inflation protection and diversification opportunities while concluding that even investment grade real estate investments are heterogeneous assets.     

Rice farming in Nigeria : in praise of the smallholder

Food production policy in Nigeria is now oriented towards large scale commercial production. The Federal Government proposes 20000 hectares of public cassava farming in all 19 states and in the Abuja capital territory. The National Grains Board and the National Root Crops Production Company are establishing large farms in their operational zones. The Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank is loaning millions of naira to individual private farmers to encourage them to establish large farms. Virtually every state government has its Agricultural Development Corporation directly involved in agricultural production on a large scale. It is presumed that the smallholder system on which Nigeria currently depends is inefficient and could not be relied upon to achieve the necessary increases in production.     

公司治理对国有和非国有企业效率的影响研究——基于2012~2015 年我国制造业上市公司数据

公司治理特征与公司绩效之间的关系一直是理论研究和实证分析的焦点。DEA 方法在公司治理与企业绩效之间的关系分析中的应用已受到越来越多的关注。本文选取2012~2015 年我国制造业上市公司数据，运用主成分分析和混合DEA 模型来剖析公司治理和公司效率之间的关系。输入变量是固定资产的净值、员工数量和公司治理，而输出变量是总收入和税前利润。对于国有和非国有制造业上市企业，公司治理是一个重要的影响公司效率的因素。研究结果表明：国有和非国有制造企业可以通过有效地使用员工、固定资产和改进公司治理来提高效率；而低效的公司治理是国有与非国有上市制造业企业效率低下的主要原因；同时，由于过度的公司治理，国有企业的低效率远高于非国有企业，这表明非国有企业的公司治理效率高于国有企业。     

Upstream Competition between Vertically Integrated Firms

We propose a model of two‐tier competition between vertically integrated firms and unintegrated downstream firms. We show that, even when integrated firms compete in prices to offer a homogeneous input, the Bertrand logic may collapse, and the input may be priced above marginal cost in equilibrium. These partial foreclosure equilibria are more likely to exist when downstream competition is fierce or when unintegrated downstream competitors are relatively inefficient. We discuss the impact of several regulatory tools on the competitiveness of the wholesale market.     

规制分权化、组织合谋与制度效率--基于中国电力行业的实证研究

产业组织理论中关于规制合谋的研究分为芝加哥学派和图卢兹学派，研究结果均表明，规制机构与被规制企业之间的合谋行为降低了规制效率．降低了社会福利水平。文章主要研究中国当前规制分权化背景下的地方规制机构与被规制企业之间的合谋问题，并且用计量方法对规制的效果进行了检验．结果表明规制分权化没有显著的正面效应，即规制低效率。因此，规制分权化产生的合谋导致了规制低效率．而解决问题的关键是机制设计。     

Mergers,acquisitions, and the pruning of managerial deadwood

This research investigates the role that mergers and acquisitions may play in the disciplining of entrenched and inefficient managers. The relationship between a company's performance history and its subsequent top management turnover is assessed for a sample of target companies, their parents, and a control group of companies not involved in merger and acquisition activity. The results reveal that target company top management turnover is higher than ‘normal’ in the 2 years immediately following a merger or acquisition, but there is no relationship between previous target company performance and its subsequent top management turnover. Further analyses indicate that first-year target company turnover rates are associated with a history of relatively poor parent company performance, while second-year turnover rates are associated with a history of relatively good parent company performance.     

我国主要国家级开发区的运行效率及提升路径选择——基于外资与土地利用视角

本文从外资与土地的集约利用角度,将国家级开发区的发展划分为四种模式,利用数据包络分析对我国27个国家级开发区2004—2006年的土地利用效率和外资利用效率进行实证分析,发现形成了外资与土地利用效率双高的集约高效发展模式,以及外资与土地利用效率一高一低的失衡发展模式的开发区都很少,大量存在的是外资与土地利用效率双低的粗放型发展模式,并据此提出单边突破式、扬优补劣渐进式,以及短期积蓄能量跨越式发展等几种效率提升路径。     

Is exclusionary pricing anticompetitive in two-sided markets?

This paper studies the competitive effects of exclusionary pricing in two-sided markets. While formally showing that below-cost pricing on one market side can allow an incumbent firm to exclude a potential rival which does not have a customer base yet, the proposed model does not necessarily imply that below-cost pricing in such markets should be taken as anti-competitive conduct. Instead, I find that in sufficiently asymmetric two-sided markets, exclusion is always beneficial and if anything, there is too little of it in the sense that there are cases in which there is inefficient entry. Further, prohibiting below marginal cost pricing may destroy some socially efficient exclusion and worsen the problem of excessive (or inefficient) entry.     

基于JACK的气压式EPB终端设计及人机工效评估

现有的EPB终端针对乘用车机械式EPB需求进行匹配设计,满足不了气压显示、气管故障报警等气压式EPB的显示需求。针对气压式EPB工作特性,应用人机工效学原理设计了一款EPB终端。运用3DS MAX与SolidWorks相结合的方式建立终端三维模型,利用JACK软件建立数字人和车辆模型,并进行合理布局。采用对数字人的舒适度分析方法,验证布局设置的合理性。采用视角、障碍域与视锥相结合的方式,从多角度对终端进行可视域分析。基于人体在驾驶的时候不能联合全身关节的工作特性,采用SAE Packaging Guidelines进行可达域分析。应用JACK软件从多角度对终端进行人机工效分析,验证总体设计方案的合理性,缩短了设计周期,降低了设计成本。
