钢筋连接套自动包装机设计

针对当前钢筋连接套采用手工装袋、包装效率低、劳动强度大等问题,设计开发了一种具有自动包装功能的钢筋连接套包装设备。依据设计需求制定了包装工艺技术路线,分析了钢筋连接套自动上料及理料、包装袋自动上料、自动装袋及封口等自动包装功能,进而提出了钢筋连接套自动包装机的总体设计方案,设计了整机结构,并对送料机构、切断结构等关键执行机构进行了综合设计与分析,计算了上料、输送、推送、横纵向缝袋与剪切等构成的工作循环和整体包装效率。结果表明,所研发的设备可完成每小时122袋的包装任务,包装效率相比人工大幅提高,同时降低了工人的劳动强度。设备适用于钢筋连接套内螺纹M18-M32等多种规格的包装,研究结果可为其他相似非标包装设备的开发提供参考。

Coordination at different stages of the product design process

This paper addresses the following question: how does the coordination challenge faced by managers change over the life of time bound projects such as product design. We use coordination structure, an approach to modeling organizational situations that highlights concurrent responsibility interdependencies rather than the more traditional task interdependencies. We explain coordination structure and use it to capture the responsibility interdependencies in a sample of complex system design projects drawn from two different organizations. We use this data: to illustrate the differences possible in the responsibility interdependencies that can exist within design projects from different organizations and at different project key points; to identify a set of four basic modules, or groupings, of responsibility interdependencies useful for modeling design organizations; and to generate a set of testable hypotheses on how the coordination challenge faced by project managers can vary between organizations and over project key points.     

Barriers to the upgrade cycle in a commodity process industry: evidence from the UK packaging industry

Attempting to move away from commodity‐based products into higher value added ones remains one of the key challenges for research and development (R&D) managers. This paper focuses on developing an understanding of these challenges in the UK packaging industry. The research presents evidence from the case of a single firm, within this process industry, that produces commodity products. The paper contributes to Lager's product degradation–upgrade cycle, which illustrates how functional products degrade into commodities unless product functionalities are continually improved. We characterise the ‘upgrade’ aspect within this model. The paper presents the findings of a 3‐year research project with one of the largest packaging manufacturers in Europe. Five barriers are uncovered that hinder firms attempting to increase the level of product differentiation in order to ‘upgrade’.

Empowering project scope decisions: introducing R&D content graphs

There have been several studies confirming the strategic and operational importance of choosing a proper project scope. There is a lack of empirically tested managerial tools to assist in this matter, and studies with longitudinally analysed R&D projects with respect to content are scarce. This article discusses the management of advanced engineering in the automotive industry. The study presents a structured approach where individual project leaders together with top management could prepare project material, discuss, visualize, and evaluate the content around a common tool. This tool, i.e. the R&D content graphs, facilitates project content selection, both during the start‐up and during the execution phase of the project. The studied project has been studied for nearly two years using an abductive case‐based research design. Since the project has been longitudinally studied, it has also been possible to test the graphs' predicting capabilities. The graphs are based on a visualization of the project content along five identified dimensions. The results reveal that the tools bring structure to project scope discussions, have some predictive value, and can also function as a vertical as well as a horizontal communication tool.

The engineering department matrix organization

This paper describes the development of an organizational structure within the Engineering Department of the Sperry Gyroscope organization. A matrix form of structure has been operating in the last 15 years or so in various forms. However, the power balance between the project and function teams has been carefully changed over this period to meet changing circumstances, it is accepted that this structure may not necessarily be suitable for all time, but its flexibility has proved of tremendous value in enabling the Engineering Department to perform effectively.
