A bivariate Poisson count data model using conditional probabilities   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
The applied econometrics of bivariate count data predominantly focus on a bivariate Poisson density with a correlation structure that is very restrictive. The main limitation is that this bivariate distribution excludes zero and negative correlation. This paper introduces a new model which allows for a more flexible correlation structure. To this end the joint density is decomposed by means of the multiplication rule in marginal and conditional densities. Simulation experiments and an application of the model to recreational data are presented.  相似文献

In this paper copulas are used to generate bivariate discrete distributions. These distributions are fitted to soccer data from the English Premier League. An interesting aspect of these data is that the primary variable of interest, the discrete pair shots-for and shots-against, exhibits negative dependence; thus, in particular, we apply bivariate Poisson-related distributions that allow such dependence. The paper focuses on Archimedian copulas, for which the dependence structure is fully determined by a one-dimensional projection that is invariant under marginal transformations. Diagnostic plots for copula fit based on this projection are adapted to deal with discrete variables. Covariates relating to within-match contributions such as numbers of passes and tackles are introduced to explain variability in shot outcomes. The results of this analysis would appear to support the notion that playing the 'beautiful game' is an effective strategy—more passes and crosses contribute to more effective play and more shots on the goal.  相似文献

This article considers a bivariate INAR(1) process based on an extension of the negative binomial thinning operator by prespecifying the distribution of the innovations. The dependence is introduced through the innovation components. The existence, uniqueness, strict stationarity, ergodicity, and some probabilistic properties of the process are derived. The estimation methods of conditional least squares and conditional maximum likelihood are considered. Some numerical results of the estimates are presented by simulation study. An application to crime data set is provided.  相似文献

This paper introduces some new elements to measure the skewness of a probability distribution, suggesting that a given distribution can have both positive and negative skewness, depending on the centred sub‐interval of the support set being observed. A skewness function for positive reals is defined, from which a bivariate index of positive–negative skewness is obtained. Certain interesting properties of this new index are studied, and they are also obtained for some common discrete distributions. We show the advantages of their use as a complement to the information derived by traditional measures of skewness.  相似文献

In epidemiology and clinical research, there is often a proportion of unexposed individuals resulting in zero values of exposure, meaning that some individuals are not exposed and those exposed have some continuous distribution. Examples are smoking or alcohol consumption. We will call these variables with a spike at zero (SAZ). In this paper, we performed a systematic investigation on how to model covariates with a SAZ and derived theoretical odds ratio functions for selected bivariate distributions. We consider the bivariate normal and bivariate log normal distribution with a SAZ. Both confounding and effect modification can be elegantly described by formalizing the covariance matrix given the binary outcome variable Y. To model the effect of these variables, we use a procedure based on fractional polynomials first introduced by Royston and Altman (1994, Applied Statistics 43: 429–467) and modified for the SAZ situation (Royston and Sauerbrei, 2008, Multivariable model‐building: a pragmatic approach to regression analysis based on fractional polynomials for modelling continuous variables, Wiley; Becher et al., 2012, Biometrical Journal 54: 686–700). We aim to contribute to theory, practical procedures and application in epidemiology and clinical research to derive multivariable models for variables with a SAZ. As an example, we use data from a case–control study on lung cancer.  相似文献

In this study, we evaluate the option prices on two assets under stochastic interest rates when the stochastic process that underlying asset prices follow is depending on a correlated bivariate Markov-modulated geometric Brownian motion model with jump risks. More specifically, we conduct the joint dynamic modeling by identifying two independent compound Poisson processes with the log-normal jump sizes to describe both individual jumps and systematic cojumps. Facilitating the cojumping behavior this way with the time-inhomogeneity of the volatility, option pricing expressions are readily obtainable since the Gerber–Siu’s approach is employed to determine a pricing kernel. The empirical results and numerical illustrations are provided to show the impact of cojumps and stochastic volatilities on option prices.  相似文献

This paper presents a general result on the random selection of an element from an ordered sequence of risks and uses this result to derive additive and cross risk apportionment. Preferences favoring an improvement of the sampling distribution in univariate or bivariate first-order stochastic dominance are those exhibiting additive or cross risk apportionment. The univariate additive and multiplicative risk apportionment concepts are then related to the notion of bivariate cross risk apportionment by viewing the single-attribute utility function of an aggregate position (sum or product of attributes) as a 2-attribute utility function. The results derived in the present paper allow one to further explore the connections between the different concepts of risk apportionment proposed so far in the literature.  相似文献

In this paper we have obtained the joint probability density function of concomitants of two record values and hence obtained an explicit expression for the product moment of concomitants of two record values arising from Morgenstern family of distributions. Appling this expression for the product moments of concomitants of record values we have derived the best linear unbiased estimators based on concomitants of record values of some parameters involved in Morgenstern type bivariate logistic distribution which is a subfamily of the Morgenstern family of distributions. The efficiencies of these estimators based on the first n concomitants of record values for n≤10 are also obtained.  相似文献

Summary Bivariate distributions, which may be of special relevance to the lifetimes of two components of a system, are derived using the following approach. As the two components are part of one system and therefore exposed to similar conditions of service, there will be similarity between their lifetimes that is not shared by components belonging to different systems. The lifetime distribution for a given system is assumed to be Gamma in form (this includes the exponential as a special case; extension to the Stacey distribution, which includes the Weibull distribution, is straightforward). The scale parameter of this distribution is itself a random variable, with a Gamma distribution. We thus obtain what might be termed a compound Gamma-Gamma bivariate distribution. The cumulative distribution function of this may be expressed in terms of one of the double hypergeometric functions of Appell.Generalised hypergeometric functions play an important part in this paper, and one of Saran's triple hypergeometric functions is obtained when generalising the above model to permit the scale parameters of the distributions for the two components to be correlated, rather than identical.Work started while the author was with the Transport Studies Group, University College London.  相似文献

Bivariate risk apportionment is the preference for dispersing risks associated with two aspects of individuals’ well-being into different states of the world. In this paper, we propose an intensity measure of this preference by extending to the bivariate case the concept of marginal rate of substitution between risks of different orders introduced in the univariate case by Liu and Meyer (2013). We show that the intensity measure of the preference for bivariate risk apportionment is characterized by bivariate risk attitudes in the sense of Ross. The usefulness of our measures to understand economic choices is illustrated by the analysis of two specific decisions: savings under environmental risk and medical treatment in the presence of diagnostic risks.  相似文献

This paper contains a Monte Carlo evaluation of estimators used to control for endogeneity of dummy explanatory variables in continuous outcome regression models. When the true model has bivariate normal disturbances, estimators using discrete factor approximations compare favorably to efficient estimators in terms of precision and bias; these approximation estimators dominate all the other estimators examined when the disturbances are non-normal. The experiments also indicate that one should liberally add points of support to the discrete factor distribution. The paper concludes with an application of the discrete factor approximation to the estimation of the impact of marriage on wages.  相似文献

A unified treatment of three types of zero class truncation for bivariate discrete distributions is presented. Using the probability generating function approach, various properties of the truncated distributions are examined in association with the corresponding properties of the initial complete form of the distribution. Expressions for moments and conditional distributions are also obtained. Bivariate versions of the Thomas and the Intervened Poisson distributions are introduced and used as illustrative examples. The score test statistics for testing zero inflation and covariance parameter are proposed in the bivariate zero‐inflated Poisson (BZIP) regression model. The Monte Carlo studies show that the score test and likelihood ratio test for testing zero inflation underestimate the nominal significance level, while the score test for covariance parameter keeps the significance level close to the nominal one. To overcome this nominal level underestimation, we propose a bootstrap method of the score test for the testing problem of zero inflation. An empirical example with covariates is provided to illustrate the results. In addition, score test for zero inflation is also proposed in the BZIP model, which allows a flexible dependence structure using copula.  相似文献

This paper studies robust inference for linear panel models with fixed effects in the presence of heteroskedasticity and spatiotemporal dependence of unknown forms. We propose a bivariate kernel covariance estimator that nests existing estimators as special cases. Our estimator improves upon existing estimators in terms of robustness, efficiency, and adaptiveness. For distributional approximations, we considered two types of asymptotics: the increasing-smoothing asymptotics and the fixed-smoothing asymptotics. Under the former asymptotics, the Wald statistic based on our covariance estimator converges to a chi-square distribution. Under the latter asymptotics, the Wald statistic is asymptotically equivalent to a distribution that can be well approximated by an F distribution. Simulation results show that our proposed testing procedure works well in finite samples.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a nonparametric kernel-based model specification test that can be used when the regression model contains both discrete and continuous regressors. We employ discrete variable kernel functions and we smooth both the discrete and continuous regressors using least squares cross-validation (CV) methods. The test statistic is shown to have an asymptotic normal null distribution. We also prove the validity of using the wild bootstrap method to approximate the null distribution of the test statistic, the bootstrap being our preferred method for obtaining the null distribution in practice. Simulations show that the proposed test has significant power advantages over conventional kernel tests which rely upon frequency-based nonparametric estimators that require sample splitting to handle the presence of discrete regressors.  相似文献

In this paper, a new bivariate generalized Poisson distribution (GPD) that allows any type of correlation is defined and studied. The marginal distributions of the bivariate model are the univariate GPDs. The parameters of the bivariate distribution are estimated by using the moment and maximum likelihood methods. This paper considers the bivariate probit model's identifying assumptions: linear index specification, joint normality of errors, instrument exogeneity, and relevance. First, we develop sharp testable equalities that detect all possible observable violations of the assumptions. Second, we propose an easy-to-implement testing procedure for the model's validity using existing inference methods for intersection bounds. The test achieves correct empirical size and performs well in detecting violations of the conditions in simulations. Finally, we provide a road map on what to do when the bivariate probit model is rejected, including novel bounds for the average treatment effect that relax the normality assumption.  相似文献
