The residual lifetime is of significant interest in reliability and survival analysis. In this article, we obtain a mixture representation for the reliability function of the residual lifetime of a coherent system with heterogeneous components in terms of the reliability functions of residual lifetimes of order statistics. Some stochastic comparisons are made on the residual lifetimes of the systems. Some examples are also given to illustrate the main results.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the statistical inference of the lifetime distribution of components based on observing the system lifetimes when the system structure is known. A general proportional hazard rate model for the lifetime of the components is considered, which includes some commonly used lifetime distributions. Different estimation methods—method of moments, maximum likelihood method and least squares method—for the proportionality parameter are discussed. The conditions for existence and uniqueness of method of moments and maximum likelihood estimators are presented. Then, we focus on a special case when the lifetime distributions of the components are exponential. Computational formulas for point and interval estimations of the unknown mean lifetime of the components are provided. A Monte Carlo simulation study is used to compare the performance of these estimation methods and recommendations are made based on these results. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the methods proposed in this paper.  相似文献

The limiting behavior of the hazard rate of coherent systems based on sequential order statistics is examined. Related results for the survival function of the system lifetime are also considered. For deriving the results, properties of limits involving a relevation transform are studied in detail. Then, limits of characteristics in sequential \(k\) -out-of- \(n\) systems and general coherent systems with failure-dependent components are obtained. Applications to the comparison of different systems based on their long run behavior and to limits of coefficients in a signature-based representation of the residual system lifetime are given.  相似文献

Inaccuracy and information measures based on the cumulative residual entropy are useful in various fields, and are attracting increasing attention in Probability Theory and Statistics. In this paper, we introduce and study an inaccuracy measure concerning the relevation transform of two nonnegative continuous random variables. We investigate various distributional properties and characterization results that are based on the mean residual lifetime and involve the generalized Pareto distribution. A connection with the proportional hazards model is also provided. We obtain comparison results involving the proposed inaccuracy measure and some existing inaccuracy measures. In the present paper, we consider a (nk + 1)-out-of-n system with identical components where it is assumed that the lifetimes of the components are independent and have a common distribution function F. We assume that the system fails at time t or sometime before t, t > 0. Under these conditions, we are interested in the study of the mean time elapsed since the failure of the components. We call this as the mean past lifetime (MPL) of the components at the system level. Several properties of the MPL are studied. It is proved that the relation between the proposed MPL and the underlying distribution is one-to-one. We have shown that when the components of the system have decreasing reversed hazard then the MPL of the system is increasing with respect to time. Some examples are also provided.  相似文献

Estimates of intergenerational economic mobility that use point in time measures of income and earnings suffer from lifecycle and attenuation bias. They also suffer from sample selection issues and further bias driven by spells out of work. We consider these issues together for UK data, the National Child Development Study and British Cohort Study, for the first time. When all three biases are considered, our best estimate of lifetime intergenerational economic persistence in the UK is 0.43 for children born in 1970. Whilst we argue that this is the best available estimate to date, we discuss why there is good reason to believe that this is still a lower bound, owing to residual attenuation bias.  相似文献

The Shannon entropy of a random variable has become a very useful tool in Probability Theory. In this paper we extend the concept of cumulative residual entropy introduced by Rao et al. (in IEEE Trans Inf Theory 50:1220–1228, 2004). The new concept called generalized cumulative residual entropy (GCRE) is related with the record values of a sequence of i.i.d. random variables and with the relevation transform. We also consider a dynamic GCRE obtained using the residual lifetime. For these concepts we obtain some characterization results, stochastic ordering and aging classes properties and some relationships with other entropy concepts.  相似文献

We study here extremes of residuals of the bivariate lifetime and the residual of extremes of the two lifetimes. In the case of generalized Marshall–Olkin model and the total time transformed exponential model, we first present some sufficient conditions for the extremes of residuals to be stochastically larger than the residual of the corresponding extremes, and then investigate the stochastic order of the residual of extremes of the two lifetimes based on the majorization of the age vector of the residuals.  相似文献

Summary Bivariate distributions, which may be of special relevance to the lifetimes of two components of a system, are derived using the following approach. As the two components are part of one system and therefore exposed to similar conditions of service, there will be similarity between their lifetimes that is not shared by components belonging to different systems. The lifetime distribution for a given system is assumed to be Gamma in form (this includes the exponential as a special case; extension to the Stacey distribution, which includes the Weibull distribution, is straightforward). The scale parameter of this distribution is itself a random variable, with a Gamma distribution. We thus obtain what might be termed a compound Gamma-Gamma bivariate distribution. The cumulative distribution function of this may be expressed in terms of one of the double hypergeometric functions of Appell.Generalised hypergeometric functions play an important part in this paper, and one of Saran's triple hypergeometric functions is obtained when generalising the above model to permit the scale parameters of the distributions for the two components to be correlated, rather than identical.Work started while the author was with the Transport Studies Group, University College London.  相似文献
