In this note we extend the Gaussian estimation of two factor CKLS and CIR models recently considered in Nowman, K. B. (2001, Gaussian estimation and forecasting of multi-factor term structure models with an application to Japan and the United Kingdom, Asia Pacif. Financ. Markets 8, 23–34) to include feedback effects in the conditional mean as was originally formulated in general continuous time models by Bergstrom, A. R. (1966, Non-recursive models as discrete approximations to systems of stochastic differential equations, Econometrica 34, 173–182) with constant volatility. We use the exact discrete model of Bergstrom, A. R. (1966, Non-recursive models as discrete approximations to systems of stochastic differential equations, Econometrica 34, 173–182) to estimate the parameters which was first used by Brennan, M. J. and Schwartz, E. S. (1979, A continuous time approach to the pricing of bonds, J. Bank. Financ. 3, 133–155) to estimate their two factor interest model but incorporating the assumption of Nowman, K. B. (1997, Gaussian estimation of single-factor continuous time models of the term structure of interest rates, J. Financ. 52, 1695–1706; 2001, Gaussian estimation and forecasting of multi-factor term structure models with an application to Japan and the United Kingdom, Asia Pacif. Financ. Markets 8, 23–34). An application to monthly Japanese Euro currency rates indicates some evidence of feedback from the 1-year rate to the 1-month rate in both the CKLS and CIR models. We also find a low level-volatility effect supporting Nowman, K. B. (2001, Gaussian estimation and forecasting of multi-factor term structure models with an application to Japan and the United Kingdom, Asia Pacif. Financ. Markets 8, 23–34).  相似文献

零息票收益率曲线是利率期限结构理论分析的基础,在金融估价和风险管理中发挥着重要作用。提出基于多项式样条函数构造零息票收益率曲线的过程及改进方法:考虑国债采样日位于付息日之间、年付息次数可变的情形,使分析更具一般性;针对多项式样条函数拟合时回归系数不显著的问题,采取剔除不显著变量的方法进行改进;讨论比较了两种样条值确定方法在我国的适用性,并研究了模型的稳定性。选取上交所国债进行的实证研究表明,在现阶段我国国债样本数据较少、结构不甚合理的情况下,采用剔除不显著变量的三段三次样条函数可以较好地构造我国的零息票收益率曲线。  相似文献

Abstract

Dufresne et al. (1991) introduced a general risk model defined as the limit of compound Poisson processes. Such a model is either a compound Poisson process itself or a process with an infinite number of small jumps. Later, in a series of now classical papers, the joint distribution of the time of ruin, the surplus before ruin, and the deficit at ruin was studied (Gerber and Shiu 1997, 1998a, 1998b; Gerber and Landry 1998). These works use the classical and the perturbed risk models and hint that the results can be extended to gamma and inverse Gaussian risk processes.

In this paper we work out this extension to a generalized risk model driven by a nondecreasing Lévy process. Unlike the classical case that models the individual claim size distribution and obtains from it the aggregate claims distribution, here the aggregate claims distribution is known in closed form. It is simply the one-dimensional distribution of a subordinator. Embedded in this wide family of risk models we find the gamma, inverse Gaussian, and generalized inverse Gaussian processes. Expressions for the Gerber-Shiu function are given in some of these special cases, and numerical illustrations are provided.  相似文献

We find an analytical solution of the Vol-Bond according to the multi-factor Gaussian Heath-Jarrow-Morton model. We show how to calibrate the model with market data. This solution allows complete (and fast) control of this class of derivatives and of their sensitivities.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper generalizes the option on the maximum or the minimum of two assets (several assets) within a stochastic interest rate framework. A Gaussian model is used to describe the interest rates. Vasicek and Fong 11 developed exponential spline functions as models of the interest rate term structure and claim such models are superior to polynomial spline models. It is found empirically that i) exponential spline term structure estimates are no more stable than estimates from a polynomial spline model, ii) data transformations implicit in the exponential spline model frequently condition the data so that it is difficult to obtain approximations in which one can place confidence, and iii) the asymptotic properties of the exponential spline model frequently are unrealistic. Estimation with exponential splines is no more convenient than estimation with polynomial splines and gives substantially identical estimates of the interest rate term structure as well.  相似文献

This paper explores the implications of filtering and no-arbitrage for the maximum likelihood estimates of the entire conditional distribution of the risk factors and bond yields in Gaussian macro-finance term structure model (MTSM) when all yields are priced imperfectly. For typical yield curves and macro-variables studied in this literature, the estimated joint distribution within a canonical MTSM is nearly identical to the estimate from an economic-model-free factor vector-autoregression (factor-VAR), even when measurement errors are large. It follows that a canonical MTSM offers no new insights into economic questions regarding the historical distribution of the macro risk factors and yields, over and above what is learned from a factor-VAR. These results are rotation-invariant and, therefore, apply to many of the specifications in the literature.  相似文献

Tweedie [11] investigated properties of the Inverse Gaussian distribution. We define in this paper the Inverse Gaussian process. For the discrete case we find the density function of the functions of Inverse Gaussian variates. Many empirical studies have shown that financial asset returns do not always exhibit Gaussian distributions, for example hedge fund returns. The introduction of the family of Johnson distributions allows a better fit to empirical financial data. Additionally, this class can be extended to a quite general family of distributions by considering all possible regular transformations of the standard Gaussian distribution. In this framework, we consider the portfolio optimal positioning problem, which has been first addressed by Brennan and Solanki [J. Financial Quant. Anal., 1981, 16, 279–300], Leland [J. Finance, 1980, 35, 581–594] and further developed by Carr and Madan [Quant. Finance, 2001, 1, 9–37] and Prigent [Generalized option based portfolio insurance. Working Paper, THEMA, University of Cergy-Pontoise, 2006]. As a by-product, we introduce the notion of Johnson stochastic processes. We determine and analyse the optimal portfolio for log return having Johnson distributions. The solution is characterized for arbitrary utility functions and illustrated in particular for a CRRA utility. Our findings show how the profiles of financial structured products must be selected when taking account of non Gaussian log-returns.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The Tweedie family, which is classified by the choice of power unit variance function, includes heavy tailed distributions, and as such could be of significant relevance to actuarial science. The class includes the Normal, Poisson, Gamma, Inverse Gaussian, Stable and Compound Poisson distributions. In this study, we explore the intrinsic objective Bayesian point estimator for the mean value of the Tweedie family based on the intrinsic discrepancy loss function – which is an inherent loss function arising only from the underlying distribution or model, without any subjective considerations – and the Jeffreys prior distribution, which is designed to express absence of information about the quantity of interest. We compare the proposed point estimator with the Bayes estimator, which is the posterior mean based on quadratic loss function and the Jeffreys prior distribution. We carry a numerical study to illustrate the methodology in the context of the Inverse Gaussian model, which is fully unexplored in this novel context, and which is useful to insurance contracts.  相似文献

Abstract

Using one of the key properties of copulas that they remain invariant under an arbitrary monotonic change of variable, we investigate the null hypothesis that the dependence between financial assets can be modelled by the Gaussian copula. We find that most pairs of currencies and pairs of major stocks are compatible with the Gaussian copula hypothesis, while this hypothesis can be rejected for the dependence between pairs of commodities (metals). Notwithstanding the apparent qualification of the Gaussian copula hypothesis for most of the currencies and the stocks, a non-Gaussian copula, such as the Student copula, cannot be rejected if it has sufficiently many ‘degrees of freedom’. As a consequence, it may be very dangerous to embrace blindly the Gaussian copula hypothesis, especially when the coefficient of correlation between the pairs of assets is too high, such that the tail dependence neglected by the Gaussian copula can became large, leading to the ignoring of extreme events which may occur in unison.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new method to a bond portfolio problem in a multi-period setting. In particular, we apply a factor allocation approach to constructing the optimal bond portfolio in a class of multi-factor Gaussian yield curve models. In other words, we consider a bond portfolio problem in terms of a factors’ allocation problem. Thus, we can obtain clear interpretation about the relation between the change in the shape of a yield curve and dynamic optimal strategy, which is usually hard to be obtained due to high correlations among individual bonds. We first present a closed form solution of the optimal bond portfolio in a class of the multi-factor Gaussian term structure model. Then, we investigate the effects of various changes in the term structure on the optimal portfolio strategy through series of comparative statics.  相似文献

We propose a new model to estimate the term structure of interest rates using observed on‐the‐run Treasury yields. The new model is an improvement over models that require a priori knowledge of the shape of the yield curve to estimate the term structure. The general form of the model is an exponential function that depends on the estimation of four parameters fit by nonlinear least squares and has straightforward interpretations. In comparing the proposed model with current yield‐curve‐smoothing models, we find that, for the data used, the proposed model does best overall in terms of pricing accuracy both in sample and out of sample. We propose using model‐free yield quadratic variation measures computed from intraday data as a tool for specification testing and selection of dynamic term structure models. We find that the yield curve fails to span realized yield volatility in the U.S. Treasury market, as the systematic volatility factors are largely unrelated to the cross‐section of yields. We conclude that a broad class of affine diffusive, quadratic Gaussian, and affine jump‐diffusive models cannot accommodate the observed yield volatility dynamics. Hence, the Treasury market per se is incomplete, as yield volatility risk cannot be hedged solely through Treasury securities.  相似文献

The exploration of the mean-reversion of commodity prices is important for inventory management, inflation forecasting and contingent claim pricing. Bessembinder et al. [J. Finance, 1995, 50, 361–375] document the mean-reversion of commodity spot prices using futures term structure data; however, mean-reversion to a constant level is rejected in nearly all studies using historical spot price time series. This indicates that the spot prices revert to a stochastic long-run mean. Recognizing this, I propose a reduced-form model with the stochastic long-run mean as a separate factor. This model fits the futures dynamics better than do classical models such as the Gibson–Schwartz [J. Finance, 1990, 45, 959–976] model and the Casassus–Collin-Dufresne [J. Finance, 2005, 60, 2283–2331] model with a constant interest rate. An application for option pricing is also presented in this paper.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper derives a class of efficient factor models that bridge a gap between factor models and Heath-Jarrow-Morton models. These efficient factor models provide arbitrage-free dynamics for the yield curve, can be readily extended to fit the current yield curve, and have closed-form formulas for pricing default-free zero-coupon bonds. The short rate is a state variable in these efficient factor models. There are no restrictions imposed on the functional form of the volatility of the short rate except for certain technical conditions to ensure the solvability of the associated stochastic differential equations. The stochastic volatility of the short rate can be one of the state variables. The paper also presents a closed-form solution for default-free discount bond prices in the Malkiel model and provides a new method to derive the Ritchken-Sankarasubramanian model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The precise measurement of the association between asset returns is important for financial investors and risk managers. In this paper, we focus on a recent class of association models: Dynamic Conditional Score (DCS) copula models. Our contributions are the following: (i) We compare the statistical performance of several DCS copulas for several portfolios. We study the Clayton, rotated Clayton, Frank, Gaussian, Gumbel, rotated Gumbel, Plackett and Student's t copulas. We find that the DCS model with the Student's t copula is the most parsimonious model. (ii) We demonstrate that the copula score function discounts extreme observations. (iii) We jointly estimate the marginal distributions and the copula, by using the Maximum Likelihood method. We use DCS models for mean, volatility and association of asset returns. (iv) We estimate robust DCS copula models, for which the probability of a zero return observation is not necessarily zero. (v) We compare different patterns of association in different regions of the distribution for different DCS copulas, by using density contour plots and Monte Carlo (MC) experiments. (vi) We undertake a portfolio performance study with the estimation and backtesting of MC Value-at-Risk for the DCS model with the Student's t copula.  相似文献
