We examine the determinants of efficiency and the total factor productivity (TFP) change of major financial institutions in Cambodia using data envelopment analysis (DEA). We apply two-stage bootstrapping estimation method to a panel data of twenty-seven financial institutions in the period of 2006–13. The empirical results reveal that the size and ownership structure of financial institutions are significantly correlated with the efficiency and TFP growth of banks. The efficiency of domestic institutions is found to be better than that of their foreign counterpart, and there is no significant difference in TFP growth between domestic and foreign institutions.  相似文献

本文通过对1985年以来国内金融业专利状况的统计分析,发现其发展具有以下特征:第一,申请数量2000年以来发生了大幅波动;第二,申请者结构发生了改变;第三,主要集中在传统银行业务的电子化和网络化方面;第四,国外申请者的申请数量接近一半,并且在发明专利的占比上远远超过内地金融机构。本文的实证部分利用多元回归和主成分分析方法,发现中国金融业竞争程度和金融业对外开放程度所代表的需求性因素是影响金融业专利发展的主要原因。  相似文献

2001年12月11日,历经15年的艰辛谈判之后,中国正式加入WTO.从此,中国金融开放被规定了时间表和加速度,中国金融业全面开放的时代已经到来.到2006年,随着5年过渡期的结束,从事混业经营的外资金融机构将全面进入我国的金融领域,他们凭借其在信息共享、全面服务、融资便利等方面的优势,势必会对从事单一金融业务的我国银行、证券、保险、基金等金融机构造成极大的冲击和压力.面对临近的金融业激烈的竞争局面,中国金融业要想提升自己的竞争力,就必须进行制度上的创新,由分业经营走向混业经营,开始中国金融业混业经营时代.本文通过对金融经营模式的国内外历史考察,分析了金融混业经营的推动力,参照国外模式,从我国实际出发,提出了我国金融业走向混业经营的政策建议,对国有商业银行上市后的经营战略选择具有一定的参考意义.  相似文献

外汇储备是一国国际经济活动往来形成的特殊的外币债权,中国经常项目、资本和金融项目的特点以及热钱的大规模流入决定了中国当前的外汇储备存在一定的不稳定因素。过多的外汇储备必将产生较大的机会成本风险,并且面临着较大且频繁的汇率风险以及境外金融机构倒闭和资产价格波动的风险,给国内的流动性控制和金融调控带来诸多的困难,增加了贸易摩擦的频率。要审时度势,通过加快国内经济结构调整、鼓励走出去、多元化运作储备资产等形式规避中国外汇储备所面临的风险。  相似文献

Sovereign defaults are associated with declines in foreign and domestic credit to the domestic private sector. This paper analyzes theoretically whether sovereign defaults can lead to this decline, even if domestic agents do not hold sovereign debt. It also studies whether the quality of domestic financial institutions affect the magnitude of this effect. In order to address these issues, the paper embeds the traditional sovereign borrower/foreign creditors relationship of the sovereign debt literature in a macromodel where widespread individual financial constraints limit a country's ability to reallocate resources. The paper finds that sovereign defaults can indeed generate a decline in foreign and domestic credit even if domestic agents do not hold sovereign debt, and that stronger domestic financial institutions can amplify this effect. These findings constitute a new step toward understanding the costs of sovereign defaults.  相似文献

We study risk management in financial institutions using data on hedging of interest rate and foreign exchange risk. We find strong evidence that institutions with higher net worth hedge more, controlling for risk exposures, across institutions and within institutions over time. For identification, we exploit net worth shocks resulting from loan losses due to declines in house prices. Institutions that sustain such shocks reduce hedging significantly relative to otherwise-similar institutions. The reduction in hedging is differentially larger among institutions with high real estate exposure. The evidence is consistent with the theory that financial constraints impede both financing and hedging.  相似文献

We examine the effectiveness of China’s IFRS adoption from the perspective of an important set of financial report users, foreign institutional investors. We find that foreign institutional investment does not increase after China’s IFRS adoption, and some evidence that it actually declines, particularly among firms with weaker incentives to credibly implement IFRS, or with greater ability to manipulate IFRS’s fair value provisions. We also find that the association between earnings and returns generally declines after IFRS adoption, consistent with reduced earnings quality. In addition, we find that foreign institutional investors’ returns decrease after China’s IFRS adoption. Finally, the decline in foreign institutional investment is greater among investors from countries with weak institutions that have also adopted IFRS. Taken together, our evidence suggests that the weak institutional infrastructure in China’s transitional economy impairs IFRS’s intended goal of attracting institutional investment through improved financial reporting quality. Further, financial information users’ home country institutions and IFRS adoption experience affect the effectiveness of IFRS adoption.  相似文献

Foreign currency loans represent an important feature of recent financial developments in CEECs. This might pose a serious challenge for macroeconomic stability. Against this background, we study the determinants of foreign currency loans of households, using data on the behavior of households in nine CEECs. Our results reveal that foreign currency loans are driven by households’ lack of trust in the stability of the local currency and in domestic financial institutions. Moreover, special factors including remittances and expectations of euro adoption play an important role in selected regions. The financial crisis reduced foreign currency borrowing, but there is some indication this effect might be only temporary.  相似文献

上世纪90年代以来,随着我国金融业改革力度不断加强,金融创新工作得到了很大发展,种类繁多的金融产品随之产生。虽然消费者藉此获得了丰厚收益,但同时也加大了金融消费的风险性。随着金融危机的爆发,金融消费者与金融机构的矛盾日益尖锐,金融消费者权益保护问题备受关注。相比国外较为成熟的法律机制和保护机构体系,我国在金融消费者权益保护方面的缺陷致使问题较为突出。如何构建一套适合我国国情的金融消费者保护体系,成为我国金融改革的当务之急。本文通过概述金融消费者权益内涵、研究国外金融消费者保护制度和相关措施,探索我国金融消费者保护有效途径,以推进我国相关法律制度的建设。  相似文献

This paper supplies an agency-cost and contestable-markets perspective on the financial policies that triggered the Asian financial crisis. The agency-cost analysis hypothesizes that individual-country regulators knew that politically directed loans had made their banks insolvent, but purposefully gambled that deregulation could allow the insolvent banks to grow their way out of trouble.The contestable-markets paradigm sets this gamble in the context of offshore innovations in financial technology and regulatory systems that made it progressively easier for worried Asian citizens to move funds to foreign institutions. These perspectives portray the simultaneous breakdown of repressive financial systems as a technology-led victory of market forces over longstanding government efforts to wall out foreign financial competition.  相似文献
