Effects of scale economies and production seasonality on optimal hub locations: the case of regional fresh produce aggregation

Interest in supporting local and regional food systems is rising and food hubs have attracted considerable attention among Federal, State, and local policymakers. This study explores the problem of endogenous hub location in fresh produce value chains in the Northeastern United States. To overcome limitations in the literature, we incorporate the effects of economies of scale and production seasonality into our models. Three experimental models are designed to examine the effects of alternatively applying yearly, quarterly, and monthly data on model solutions. We explicitly assess how interactions of scale economies and seasonality influence the structure and spatial attributes of an optimal regional produce aggregation hub system. The three models generate marketed different solutions and in many respects they lead to different conclusions about developing local/regional supply chains. The monthly model allows for production seasonality and actual hub operation cycle frequency and thus leads to more efficient hub solution with rich policy implications.

Quality in competitive fresh produce supply chains with application to farmers' markets

Fresh produce supply chains have special characteristics, notably, that the quality of the product (fruit or vegetable) deteriorates continuously over time, even under ideal conditions. In this paper, we begin with explicit formulae for fresh produce quality deterioration based on chemistry and temperature and provide a path-based framework. We then focus on farmers' markets, the popularity of which has been growing due to consumers' greater awareness of and interest in product quality and emphasis on health. Farmers' markets, as examples of direct to consumer channels and shorter supply chains, are studied in the framework of game theory in both uncapacitated and capacitated versions. A case study of apples in Massachusetts, under various scenarios, including production disruptions, provides quantitative evidence of the applicability of our supply chain network approach.     

Consumers’ willingness-to-pay for food safety labels in an emerging market: The case of fresh produce in Thailand

Food safety systems in emerging markets are currently facing a transformation period, becoming more stringent because of an increasing demand for safer food. Consequently, policy makers need to find strategies to increase food safety while giving the industry time to improve their performance. In Thailand, policy makers have adopted the strategy of upgrading food safety standards gradually. Government and private food safety brands and labels were introduced onto the market but little is known whether Thai consumers have preferences for them or not. This study is aimed at evaluating Thai consumers’ preferences for food safety labels and brands on fresh produce, using a surveyed based on discrete-choice experiments. A sample of 350 Thai consumers was surveyed in Bangkok and Nonthaburi in 2013. Quota sampling according to the shopping outlets and convenience sampling methods were adopted. Two hundred respondents were recruited at fresh-food markets and 150 respondents were recruited at supermarkets. We found that consumers are willing-to-pay more for both government led food safety label and private brands, but that there is high heterogeneity in their preferences. The high degree of social desirability for food safety labels confirms that food safety labelling policy should be supported. However, the provision of information and credibility are vital in order to mitigate the risk of consumer deception by self-claimed labels.     

我国农产品物流现状及对策分析

众所周知,目前我国的农业和农村经济都进入了一个全新的发展阶段,随着国民经济的高速发展,正式加入世界贸易组织、建立与周边国家和地区的自由贸易区以及深化改革粮棉等重要农产品的流通体制等等各种举措都使得我国农产品的市场化程度与贸易自由化程度得以快速的提高,自然而然,这也对现代农产品的物流提出了更高的要求。但由于受种种主客观因素的影响,现今我国的农产品物流还远远不能满足农业和农村经济快速发展的需要,因此,如何加快发展我国现代农产品物流成为了一个新的社会热点。     

跳水运动员的疲劳过程与恢复探讨

通过文献资料、调查访问等方法,对跳水运动员在日常训练和比赛中疲劳的产生原因及恢复进行探讨。调查发现,教练员和队医不仅需要用常规的恢复手段和物理治疗进行调整恢复,还应更多的对运动员进行一定的心理沟通,才能更好的达到最佳的恢复效果和状态。     

区域农产品物流一体化的可持续发展研究

在充分分析制约区域农产品物流一体化发展的因素的基础上,提出了发展区域农产品物流一体化的具体措施,研究表明促进区域农业物流一体化建设必须坚持科学发展观指导,从中汲取有利的理论成分和创新观点,坚持以农为本,全面、协调和可持续的开展农业物流一体化建设。     

农产品流通中逆向物流与价值链最大化研究

分析了当前我国农产品流通中存在的问题,提出了通过逆向物流实现农产品价值链的最大化,从而放大农产品在从农村到城镇的逆向流通的价值效应.通过优化物流运送方式,探索出了农产品逆向流通效益最大化的运作模式,提出农产品流通各个供应链要强化协作,各自发挥优势,从而实现双向共赢.
