An Approach to Evaluation of a Computer-Aided Management System

Abstract— A method is described which was developed to evaluate the “behavior” characteristics of a computer program used for R&D Resource Allocation. Results are included for the application of this method to a computer-aided decision process previously used in the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. This evaluation method is possibly applicable in general to other computer-aided management systems.

The Impact of Industry Structure and Penalty Policies on Incentives for Compliance and Regulatory Enforcement

This paper examines the optimal fine for violations of environmental regulations, taking into account financial constraints facing regulated firms and the hierarchical structure of regulatory enforcement. Contrary to the existing literature, which suggests that maximal fines are sub-optimal, we find that the optimal fine is either the maximum amount the firm can afford to pay or zero (i.e., no regulation). The impact of a change in industry structure on the optimal fine, firm compliance and regulatory resource strategies is considered. We identify conditions under which the equilibrium level of regulatory resources decreases with an increase in the number of firms in the industry.     

Youth development volunteers: Their motives,how they differ from other volunteers and correlates of involvement intensity

The research objectives were to understand better the motives of youth development volunteers, determine if youth development volunteers could be differentiated from other volunteers using determinant variables from multiple conceptual domains and to discover correlates that may predict more intensive volunteering involvement. Social-lifestyle, demographic, personality and terminal value measures were obtained from a sample of 164 youth development volunteers and 849 volunteers serving in other organisations. Survey respondents were derived from over 40 nonprofit organisations in two mid-western US cities. Results, managerial implications and recommendations for future research are presented.
