Prior studies have examined the value relevance of operating measures in the airline industry. These indicators, however, have been evaluated in isolation. This study adds to the extant literature by investigating the interactive effects of service quality (e.g., on-time arrivals, flight delays, mishandled baggage, and complaints) and aircraft productivity on the firm's future performance as measured by one-quarter-ahead Return on Assets or Return on Sales. Overall, results show that negative factors such as more complaints and more mishandled baggage interact with aircraft productivity to further reduce one-quarter ahead Return on Assets or Return on Sales, with the results of complaints being more pronounced. On the other hand, there is no support for the interaction between on-time arrivals and aircraft productivity.  相似文献

The worldwide demographic shift towards population ageing has made older adults an attractive market segment not only for developed countries but also for developing countries such as Malaysia. This study explores travel behaviour among older adults living in Malaysia. Using non-probability quota sampling, 1356 older adults responded to the personal interviews carried out in Peninsular Malaysia. The main travel motivations were ‘to spend time with friends or family’ and ‘relaxation’, and the most preferred destinations were big cities. The majority of the respondents preferred to travel in tour groups. Their decision to travel was largely influenced by cost and recommendations from their family. During their holiday, common problems faced by them were tiredness, health problems and worries over safety and security. There were significant differences with respect to their travel behaviour, among the different ethnic groups and religions. Based on the results, this paper provides some management implications to marketers and other tourism organisations.  相似文献

This study performs a comprehensive examination of organizational context in the relationship between managerial turnover and organizational performance. Using theoretical frameworks of human and social capital, we focus on the moderating roles of entity size, employment system, industry brand, and location. To test our hypotheses, we worked with the company records of a multinational fashion retail group with more than 4,000 stores grouped into eight different brands and 100,000 employees in more than 31 countries. To estimate the causal contextual effects of the relationship between voluntary managerial turnover and organizational performance, we designed a quasi-experiment using propensity score matching analysis. Our results show that the dysfunctional side of managerial turnover is significant for stores that are large, for stores managed under a primary employment system, for brands operating with higher levels of service orientation, and for countries with more restrictive employment protection legislation. We discuss the implications of these findings for practice and for future research.  相似文献

While there are 25 years of empirical research on how FDI may affect income inequality, there is surprisingly no consensus on this issue. In this paper, we conduct a meta-analysis on the effect of FDI on inequality using 543 empirical studies from 1995 to 2019. Among various factors, we find that the development level of the study country has the strongest influence on the direction in which FDI affects income inequality. When the primary studies are sorted into three groups based on the GDP per capita of their sample areas, the within-group estimates on the effect of FDI on income inequality become strongly consistent with each other. Particularly, we find that FDI is associated with higher inequality for the low-income group, has no statistically significant effect for the middle-income group, and is associated with lower inequality for the high-income group. This observation suggests that FDI may increase income inequality as a country initially develops, but reduce inequality as development deepens.  相似文献

The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program is designed primarily to retain academic talent in Canadian universities by providing targeted grants to outstanding researchers. Once awarded a chair at her home university, a researcher's compensation increases by 6.3% on average, with a significant decline over CRC tenure. Furthermore, the chance of the researcher changing jobs does not decrease. Although universities report spending more than half of the grant on compensation, only a small portion of the grant can be accounted for as a compensation increase. This demonstrates the difficulty in designing government interventions to have an impact on academic retention.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This research seeks to identify the influence of perceived risk in the purchase intention environment regarding innovative technological products, and also to understand how brand trust reduces the expected impact of this risk due to the hedonic and utilitarian characteristics influencing purchase intention. Quantitative research was carried out and analysed through structural equation modelling, where the influence of perceived risk on utilitarian value and purchase intention was identified, as well as the influence of brand trust in reducing this risk. The conceptual implications of the study describe as the perceived risk moderates hedonic features less compared to utilitarian features regarding purchase intention, thus demonstrating that emotional relationships are less affected by this risk. The managerial implications suggest that devices with utilitarian characteristics should be more carefully planned according to their brand and complexity, while hedonic products do not require brand trust to guarantee consumers’ purchase intention in the current innovative scenario.  相似文献

Although climate change may severely impact agriculture, farmers can mitigate it by adapting. Using US data, we estimate the amount of potential loss in agricultural profits, due to climate change, that can be reduced by agricultural adaptation. We consider two panel frameworks that differ only in their fixed effects specifications, where this difference allows us to estimate the climate change impact on agricultural profits with or without adaptation. Comparing these estimates, we find that adaptation has the potential to offset about two‐thirds of the end‐of‐century loss in agricultural profits potentially resulting from climate change. We also find that the warmest region in the US (i.e. in the south) has the most to gain from adaptation.  相似文献
