This study extends prior studies by examining how managerial ownership and external unrelated blockholdings affect the informativeness of earnings. The results are in contrast to prior studies. A non–linear relation exists between managerial ownership and earnings informativeness. Earnings informativeness increases with managerial ownership at low levels but not at higher levels of managerial ownership where the entrenchment effect sets in. Consistent with the role of large shareholder monitoring, the evidence shows a strong positive relationship between external unrelated blockholdings and earnings informativeness. ABSTRACTThe article uses actor network theory and the field of market studies to take a processual and relational approach to the alternative/mainstream food duality. Questions about how food systems or products make claim to be of the alternative or mainstream, and to what consequence, underpin the study. Analysis traces the making and shaping of two market versions for male dairy calves, a by-product of the dairy industry, often treated as ‘waste’ in the UK. Analysis focuses on the assemblage of actors, the breaking of matters of fact and shaping and communication of concerns, and at actions. Contrary to many approaches to the alternative, focus is paid to overlap between systems, knowledge and actors and simultaneous development of two products. From this, the ethicality of the mainstream, the continued duality and its consequences are discussed. The linkage patterns in the journeys made each day by housewives and by other adults are described. A simple model of the number of stages to which journeys are extended is presented. A new approach, the multidimensional latent regression (MLR) approach of item response theory, is employed to evaluate the
dimensions of individual employee creativity, workplace atmosphere, and workplace innovative activity. Based on the MLR concept,
the relationships among the measurement scales of these variables are tested for their unidimensionality versus multidimensionality.
Multidimensionality was found. While workplace atmosphere is closely linked to workplace innovative activity, individual employee
creativity forms its own dimension but is still positively linked to the other two measures. To achieve an accurate comparison
between the two groups of Thai and Egyptian employees who have the same levels of agreement with the scale items, it is necessary
to adjust the scores of Egyptian employees downwards.
