Portfolio Choice in the Presence of Non-Tradable Income: An Experimental Analysis

Abstract. This paper reports the results of an experiment on portfolio choice in the presence of non-tradable income. The non-tradable income part could either be riskless or risky (background risk). In many cases, we observe behavior that is qualitatively consistent with the predictions of normative theory. However, correlations between financial and non-tradable wealth are neglected. The computation of aggregated risk profiles helps subjects to partly overcome the deviations from normative theory due to neglect of correlations.

Die Verzögerung im Erscheinen des Fortsetzungsteiles der Untersuchung erklärt sich aus einem fast einjährigen Amerikaaufenthalt des Verfassers und dessen stärkster Inanspruchnahme mit anderen Arbeiten.Der vorliegende zweite Teil ist äußerlich auf den Stand des Jahresendes 1961 gebracht; innerlich kann er ebenfalls seine frühere Entstehungszeit nicht verleugnen. Beide Teile — auch der erste, ergänzt um die Entwicklung der Periode 1960/61 (vor allem also die Finanzministerschaft Dr. Eduard Heilingsetzers) — werden in Kürze als Spezialpublikation im Wiener Springer-Verlag herauskommen.Es ist dem Verfasser abermals eine angenehme Pflicht, Herrn Dr. Herbert Zogelmann für seine wertvolle Mitarbeit auch an diesem Teil der Untersuchung ausdrücklich zu danken.     

Profit rates and structural variables in French manufacturing industries

In this paper, the authors apply the theory of industrial organization to the French manufacturing sector. Profit rates of industries and firms are related to concentration on the product market, differentiation, economies of scale, absolute capital cost requirements and to firm sizes. The analysis suggest that concentration on the seller's side may lead to misallocation of resources in industries in which barriers to entry are high. They also suggest that large firms may be less efficient than smaller firms. These results call into question the industrial policy of the French government over the last ten years.

Die Geschäftsleiterkontrolle im Versicherungsaufsichtsrecht

The material risks, which can derive from insurance companies, legitimate the severe limitation of the insurance company manager’s constitutional right of the freedom of work. The reliability in insurance company managers is basically assumed. It can regularly only dispensed with a qualified infringement of law, not by a decline in moral standards. In this context the eligibility of infringements has to be detected by a valuation. Therefore the criteria besides the whole purpose of the German Insurance Supervision Act (VAG) are met in: The gravity of the offence, the reference to the occupation, frequency, the future comportment as well as the time lapse. Business judgements are categoricaly not approachable to the supervision of reliability.
