In summary, there are costs to maintaining separate systems to cover both work- and non-work-related injuries and illnesses; there are also significant costs associated with achieving coordination--if not integration--of the two plans. Overall, the financial data do not indicate that the overlap between workers' compensation and health benefits is of such magnitude as to justify integration regardless of cost; however, the data do suggest that judicious exploitation of opportunities to coordinate the two programs, especially in regard to managing health care providers, may generate significant savings.  相似文献

Studies have shown that price is very poorly correlated with quality. This paper discusses the methodological criticisms of the earlier work, concluding that the original results remain robust. Examination of 91 sets of Canadian products containing 1020 items reinforces the conclusions of earlier work for the United States and Japan. These international studies contradict the conventional wisdom that price is an adequate signal of quality. We also test the hypotheses that price is a better signal of quality (a) after product tests have been published, and (b) for higher priced items which presumably justify larger investments in search. Canadian data do not support either hypothesis. Some theoretical explanations are outlined and a conclusion briefly presents implications for policy.

Zusammenfassung Zahlreiche Untersuchungsergebnisse haben gezeigt, daß Preis und Qualität in einem nur sehr dürftigen Zusammenhang stehen. Diese Befunde sind unter methodischem Gesichtspunkt kritisiert worden, der vorliegende Beitrag versucht jedoch zu zeigen, daß die Befunde robust sind und der Kritik standhalten können. Eine Untersuchung der Autoren anhand von 91 kanadischen Warentests mit 1,020 Artikeln bestätigt darüberhinaus die früheren Ergebnisse aus den Vereinigten Staaten und Japan. Insgesamt widersprechen diese internationalen Untersuchungen der herkömmlichen Ansicht, daß der Preis eines Gutes ein angemessener Qualitätsindikator sei.Darüber hinaus prüft die Studie der Autoren die Hypothese, daß der Preis ein besserer Qualitätsindikator ist, (a) nachdem Warentests durchgeführt und die Ergebnisse publiziert wurden, und (b) wenn es sich um teurere Produkte handelt, die vermutlich einen höheren Suchaufwand rechtfertigen. Beide Hypothesen werden durch kanadische Daten nicht gestützt. Through the development and extension of theories and scholars’ subsequent empirical analyses of significant, theoretically grounded research questions, the knowledge about corporate entrepreneurship (CE) and its successful use continues to advance. Moreover, the literature suggests important relationships between the corporate environment, managers’ entrepreneurial behavior and successful implementation of corporate entrepreneurship actions. In an attempt to test some of those relationships, we describe an empirical study of 523 managers that examines the relationships among the antecedents to managers’ entrepreneurial behavior, a decision to implement entrepreneurial actions, and resulting job satisfaction and reinforcement practices.  相似文献

This article focuses on the structuring of the corporate headquarters in a franchise organization. Four essential issues that are related to franchisors organizational structure are discussed—homogeneity and heterogeneity of franchisors structure, company-owned and franchise arrangement, the dynamics between strategy and structure, and performing innovative and administrative functions simultaneously in the headquarters. There is general agreement that attitudes towards the entrepreneur, entrepreneurial activity, and its social function are determinant factors for university students to decide an entrepreneurial career.This empirical study aims at assessing and comparing the attitudes of university students towards entrepreneurship and enterprise formation in Catalonia and Puerto Rico, using a sample of 837 and 435 students, respectively.Results reveal a positive entrepreneur’s image. Both samples have a favorable perception of desirability of new venture creation, although the perception of feasibility is by far not so positive and only a small percentage has the firm intention to create a new company.  相似文献

Sample design and sample allocation methods are developed for random digit dialling in household telephone surveys. The proposed method is based on a two-way stratification of telephone numbers. A weighted probability proportional to size sample allocation technique is used, with auxiliary variables about the telephone coverage rates, within local telephone exchanges of each substrata. This makes the sampling design nearly “self-weighting” in residential numbers when the prior information is well assigned. A computer program generates random numbers for the local areas within the existing phone capacities. A simulation study has shown greater sample allocation gain by the weighted probabilities proportional to size measures over other sample allocation methods. The amount of dialling required to obtain the sample is less than for proportional allocation. A decrease is also observed on the gain in sample allocation for some methods through the increasing sample sizes.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to provide evidence that the debate between quantitative and qualitative is divisive and, hence, counterproductive for advancing the social and behavioral science field. We advocate that all graduate students learn to utilize and to appreciate both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. As such, students will develop into pragmatist researchers who are able to utilize both quantitative and qualitative techniques when conducting research. We contend that the best way to accomplish this is by eliminating quantitative research methodology and qualitative research methodology courses from curricula and replacing these with research methodology courses at different levels that simultaneously teach both quantitative and qualitative techniques within a mixed methodological framework.An earlier version of this article received the 2003 Southwest Educational Research Association (SERA) Outstanding Paper Award.  相似文献
