Research on detrimental workplace behaviors has increased recently, predominantly focusing on justice issues. Research from the integrity testing literature, which is grounded in trait theory, has not received as much attention in the management literature. Trait theory, agency theory, and psychological contracts theory each have different predictions about employee performance that is harmful to the organization. While on the surface they appear contradictory, this paper describes how each can be integrated to increase our understanding of detrimental workplace behaviors.Deborah L. Kidder is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management at Towson University, in Towson, MD, USA. Her Ph.D. is in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesta. Her research interests involve issues of trust and equity, perceptions of (un) fairness at work, and the consequences of (un)fair treatment for employees and organizations. Missing from destination image research is a focus on multisensory processing, particularly with respect to multiple types of communication about a destination. In this study a 2 × 2 between‐subject experimental design was employed to explore how multisensory processing of various forms of communication induces or amplifies positive images. At the same time, the relative contributions of empathy and destination image to willingness to visit the tourism destination were investigated. Structural equation modeling suggested that multisensory processing positively affected empathy and destination image, and empathy and destination image contributed to willingness to visit a destination. The study results are discussed in terms of their contribution to the literature as well as the ways in which they can be used by tourism researchers and marketers. As nurses, we participate in providing social justice through the delivery of health care. While much of what we do supports healthier lifestyles and healing, we must also acknowledge that for an increasing number of our patients, life may have become irreversibly painful and unwanted. Nurses have acute sensitivity to the dilemmas faced by dying patients and their families. Our empathy and know-how in such cases dictates that we make an effort to relieve such suffering. Easing suffering will require assessments of the changing terrain of end-of-life care and the populations receiving that care. Dialogues can bridge the interest of patients, providers, and policymakers and ultimately legislation that reinforces ethical end-of-life care and ensures a voice for those who will be most affected.  相似文献

This study examines factors that predict perceptions of workplace discrimination by employees with disabilities. Individual level variables are combined with organizational level variables in a single model of perceived inequality. Data came from surveys administered to employees with disabilities and their respective employers. Individual and organizational variables together provide a better understanding of perceived discrimination than either set alone. Despite the predominance of studies that demonstrate inequality in compensation, this study shows that employees experience discrimination over most terms/conditions of employment.  相似文献

This paper studies the cross-country pattern of U.S. overseas assembly activities between 1980 and 2000 to examine how outsourcing decisions are affected by changes in country and competitor costs. A number of interesting regularities emerge. When a country's costs rise, the share of U.S. overseas assembly activities in that location decline. Conversely, a country's share grows when competitor country costs increase. While own and competitor country costs affect overseas assembly in all countries, the magnitude of these effects is larger for developing countries. In many cases, the measured cost responses appear to correspond with outsourcing theories that are based on search and customization costs.  相似文献

Situational judgment tests (SJTs) are popular personnel selection tests. To aid researchers, the paper summarizes the current knowledge and where knowledge gaps exist. To guide practice, the paper provides evidence-based recommendations. The paper begins with a brief history of SJTs, presents likely reasons for the resurgence of SJT research and practice, and summarizes the theoretical basis of SJTs. Then, the distinction between personnel selection methods and constructs is reviewed as it is particularly important in understanding SJTs. SJT research relevant to reliability and validity is summarized as is research relevant to the implementation of SJTs. The paper concludes with recommendations for practice and an agenda for future research.  相似文献
