This study investigates the volatily jump contagion among the Asian, European (Germany, UK, & France) and US markets. In particular, it examines the stochastic linkages among the international stock markets and analyzes the self and cross-excitation of jumps. The discontinuities in the stochastic volatility of each market are identified and their structural inter-dependencies are analyzed. Our empirical results imply that negative jumps from the USA and Europe are transmitted to the domestic Asian markets, while positive jumps are majorly from the regional markets. Results also imply that the cross-market linkages vary with respect to markets and regimes. Our results have implications for risk management, investment and hedging decisions.  相似文献

Consumers' choices and evaluations can sometimes be interpreted as goal-driven attempts to manage some of the internal and external resources and constraints that affect subsequent purchase and consumption choices. For example, delaying gratification involves limiting immediate benefits in favor of better future ones. We refer to this self-management of resources and constraints as dynamic preference maintenance and illustrate this concept with a number of marketing examples. Despite the fact that personality is thought to be one of the main factors that may explain unhappy consumers’ behavior, very little is known about how it affects their attitudes and complaining strategies. This is particularly true in the case of Japanese consumers where scant research has been conducted on their complaining behaviors. Hence, the main objective of this study is to investigate the roles of three personality traits (i.e., self‐confidence, aggressiveness, and altruism) of Japanese consumers in explaining their attitudes toward complaining, perceived likelihood of successful complaints (PLSCs), and complaining behaviors. On a sample of 263 respondents, a univariate general linear model (GLM) analysis is performed to assess the moderating roles of personality traits on complaint‐related variables. The results show that, on the one hand, in contrast to self‐confidence, the levels (i.e., high vs. low) of aggressiveness and altruism have significant impacts on attitudes toward complaining and PLSCs. However, the level of self‐confidence appears to have the most significant impacts on public complaining behaviors. On the other hand, altruism is found to be the only personality trait that may explain consumers’ private complaining behaviors. Additional analyses reveal interactive effects of the personality traits on complaining attitude and behaviors.  相似文献

Studies investigating market reactions to changes in capital structure aim to find the impact of private information conveyed. However, these studies ignore that financial decisions are not made randomly but are conditional on managers’ private information. Using a sample of U.S. leverage‐increasing public companies with public long‐term debt offerings, we find that debt offerings convey no new information to the markets after considering the conditionality of decisions. We also show that results can be biased if the deterministic role played by private information ex ante is omitted, which may explain the conflicting valuation evidence found in the literature.  相似文献

We review the theories put forward, methodological approaches used and empirical conclusions found in the multidisciplinary literature on the relationship between student employment and educational outcomes. A systematic comparison of the empirical work yields new insights that go beyond the overall reported negative effect of more intensive working schemes and that are of high academic and policy relevance. One such insight uncovered by our review is that student employment seems to have a more adverse effect on educational decisions (continuing studies and enrolment in tertiary education) than on educational performance (test and exam scores).  相似文献
