This study explores the process of adoption of new information technologies by the users of rural tourism services and, more concretely, the underlying psychological factors of individuals that explain their intentions to make bookings or reservations directly through the websites of the rural accommodations (online purchase intentions). Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), this study establishes a theoretical model that includes five explanatory variables of the online purchase intention: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, and innovativeness. The empirical results obtained in a sample of 1083 tourists that had previously visited several websites of rural accommodations suggest that the online purchase intention is positively influenced by: 1) the levels of performance and effort expected with regard to the transaction; and 2) the level of innovativeness of users. In addition, the innovativeness construct has a moderating effect on the relationship between performance expectancy and online purchase intention.

In this paper, we consider the role of production externalities in the task assignment problem. Milgrom and Roberts (1992) suggest that complementarities available when agents are assigned to diverse tasks are necessary to overcome distortions in effort allocations caused by an inability to fine‐tune incentives when agents' compensation is based on aggregate imperfect signals. Our analysis formalizes this intuition in a setting that encompasses externalities under both diverse and similar task assignments.

This study aimed to explore the impact of regulatory focus on employees’ effort behavior and social loafing in the context of international tourist hotels. The moderating effect of leader–member exchange on this causal relationship was also examined. Data were analyzed using a regression model of 708 valid responses obtained from frontline employees working in five-star international hotels. The results reveal that regulatory focus is positively related to effort behavior and partially supports social loafing. Leader–member exchange moderates the relationship between promotion focus and effort behavior as well as between prevention focus and effort behavior. These findings provide managerial implications for hotel managers in regard to predicting positive work behavior and minimizing negative behavior in the workplace.

In this paper, we study effort-maximizing contest design under the “reverse” nested lottery contest model of Fu et al. (2014) — which is the “mirror image” of the conventional nested lottery contest of Clark and Riis (1996). We show that under the reverse-lottery technology, a single-stage winner-take-all grand contest dominates all other feasible designs when the contest is sufficiently noisy. This result is in dramatic contrast to the conventional wisdom on the optimality of multistage elimination contests that is grounded under the conventional nested lottery contest technology in the literature. In the framework of a noisy-performance ranking model, the conventional and reverse models differ only in the noise on players’ performance. Our study therefore reveals the important role that the noise term plays in modeling imperfectly discriminatory contests.

One interesting explanation for asset securitization is the managerial agency theory—where securitization of cash flows that
are relatively insensitive to managerial effort reduces the noise for cash flows that are sensitive to managerial effort (Iacobucci
and Winter, 2005). This paper extends this concept in several ways. First, we differentiate the effects of noise and effort
sensitivity on managerial effort and compensation, underscoring the importance of a less noisy environment. We also carefully
delineate the conditions under which asset securitization would improve the welfare of managers and shareholders of the originating
company. Second, we relax the assumptions regarding the expected income-producing function and the income variance, and further
take into consideration the change of the marginal production of income with respect to effort before and after securitization.
Third, under a multitask principal-agent model framework, we explore how the relationship between managerial activities on
different assets affects the incentive compensation for the manager of the originating company and the joint surplus for shareholder
and manager. This is particularly relevant when entire buildings are securitized as opposed to pools of income-generating
assets. Finally, we examine the role of the third-party servicer.
