On the regulation of spatial externalities: coexistence between GM and conventional crops in the EU and the ‘newcomer principle’*

Pollen‐mediated gene flow is one of the main concerns associated with the introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops. Should a premium for non‐GM varieties emerge on the market, ‘contamination’ by GM pollen would generate a revenue loss for growers of non‐GM varieties. This paper analyses the problem of pollen‐mediated gene flow as a particular type of production externality. The model, although simple, provides useful insights into coexistence policies. Following on from this and taking GM herbicide‐tolerant oilseed rape (Brassica napus) as a model crop, a Monte Carlo simulation is used to generate data and then estimate the effect of several important policy variables (including width of buffer zones and spatial aggregation) on the magnitude of the externality associated with pollen‐mediated gene flow.

海峡两岸农产品贸易指标评估

农产品是两岸贸易的重要组成部分,其基本动力来自农业资源禀赋差异和市场竞争因素。本文拟就两岸农产品贸易结合度、贸易竞争力、显示性比较优势等三个指标,对两岸农产品各自市场竞争优势进行技术评估,为探讨两岸农产品贸易前景和贸易政策制定提供参考。     

公司内部治理与自由现金流关系研究——基于我国民营上市公司实证研究

以我国民营上市公司2006-2009年数据为样本,分析民营企业董事会内部治理与自由现金流量的关系。研究得出以下结论：①我国民营上市公司董事会规模和董事长与总经理的两职分任与公司的自由现金流量不存在相关性;②董事会中的独立董事比例和董事会年度会议次数与企业自由现金流量呈现显著的负相关关系。     

基于系统动力学的企业现金流预测研究

文章将传统财务预测与基于系统动力学财务预测作对比,分析企业现金流在经营活动、投资活动、筹资活动和分配活动之间的关系,建立企业现金流预测模型。同时以某上市公司的财务数据为例,对该企业未来三年的现金流的变化趋势进行预测。该模型的建立有助于为企业管理层提供决策参考。     

科技人员流动情况及比较研究——以江苏省常州市、扬州市和徐州市为例

科技人员的合理流动是科技知识交流的重要途径。为客观、全面地了解科技人员的流动情况,课题组调查了江苏省常州、扬州和徐州三市的科技人员,首先对调研所得数据进行描述统计,然后通过单因素方差分析,研究了地区、性别和年龄等七个背景因素对科技人员流动的影响,得到了一系列富有启示意义的结论,进而提出了相应的对策措施。     

Exploring the relationship between CSR performance and financial constraints: empirical evidence from European firms

This paper investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and financial constraints. Our panel dataset consists of 397 European companies listed in the STOXX Europe 600 during 2009–2014. The findings reveal that firms with higher CSR performance exhibit lower degree of financial constraints. In addition, the link between CSR performance and financial constraints is a fully mediated relationship. The negative effect of CSR performance on financial constraints follows the path through mitigating agency conflicts of free cash flow and information asymmetry. The findings suggest that one mechanism linking CSR performance and financial constraints is a reduction of capital-market imperfections.     

The effects of tourism development on rural livelihoods in the Okavango Delta,Botswana

The Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) program in Botswana aims to achieve biodiversity conservation and rural development in rich biodiversity areas like the Okavango Delta. CBNRM assumes that if rural communities derive benefits from natural resources, they will be obliged to use such resources sustainably. Using the sustainable livelihoods framework, this study analyzes the effects of tourism development through CBNRM on rural livelihoods at Khwai, Sankoyo and Mababe in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, using primary and secondary data sources. Results of long-term surveys and in-depth interviews indicate that the three communities have forgone traditional livelihood activities such as hunting and gathering, livestock and crop farming to participate in tourism through CBNRM. Livelihoods in these villages have been improved as a result. Basic needs such as shelter, employment and income and social services like water supply systems, transportation, scholarships and payment of funeral expenses are now provided to community members and funded with income from CBNRM. Social capital has been built up in order to agree, manage and develop the CBNRM process. These results show that tourism development in these villages is achieving its goal of improved livelihoods, contradicting claims that community development projects are failing to achieve rural development.     

Rethinking flow: qualitative insights from Mexican cross-border shopping

The purpose of our study is twofold: (1) to conceptualize the flow construct in the offline retail environment not only as a psychological phenomenon but also as a sociocultural phenomenon by exploring related cultural variables and (2) to adopt a qualitative approach as a means to provide broader coverage of the likely factors associated with flow. We follow a grounded theory approach to formulate a conceptual model about the phenomenon of interest. Data collection includes semistructured in-depth interviews and a focus group. For data interpretation, we applied semiotic and narrative textual analyses. We propose a model of the antecedents leading to flow experience in the offline retail environment, introducing macro (sociocultural) factors and advancing micro (psychological) factors. Key elements of flow require a more refined definition in the offline retail environment. Several macro (cultural) attributes that influence Mexican shoppers' propensity to experience flow while either just browsing or fulfilling their shopping goals were identified. Retailers' efforts should be directed to providing opportunities for flow experience by articulating the right communication strategies. Qualitative methods uncovered a unique perspective exploring sociocultural characteristics and redefining individual characteristics of the offline retail shopping experience.
