Commercial B2B Web Site Attributes Within the Perishable Sector

ABSTRACT

This study examines the factors determining the quality of a business-to-business web site using data from the perishable industry. Data from two time periods are used to identify the persistent trends in web features that support customer interaction. A binomial probit model is used to assess the contribution that various features have on the probability of a web site being included in the Forbes listing of prominent web sites. The results indicate that features such as customer support, promotion, proprietary software availability, and the duration of web site operation play an important role in determining the probability of a website being listed in the Forbes list.

A perfect storm is facing U.S. supermarkets

Abstract

This article discusses a “perfect storm” that has evolved in recent years related to the composition of the U.S. Latino population—a dramatic demographic shift that threatens the economic stability of supermarkets and other retailers that have traditionally focused their services or products on the foreign-born segment of the Latino population. Using spatial analysis of recent data provided by the American Community Survey and the Consumer Expenditure Survey, the study identified four distinct segments of U.S. counties that provide different levels of market potential related to the concentration of native-born and foreign-born Latinos, their English-language proficiency, and their estimated food-at-home expenditures. Based on these findings, suggestions are made for marketers to re-align their marketing strategies to minimize the potential negative consequences of the developing perfect storm.

Location patterns of urban restaurants

Locational patterns of five categories of restaurants in eight Canadian cities in Ontario are examined to identify spatial regularities. Spatial regularities sought include tendencies to agglomerate or deglomerate with respect to restaurants of the same category as well as of different categories; spatial correlations with other land uses; apparent effects of varying traffic levels (AADTs) on restaurant location; and variations in restaurant patterns in cities of different population sizes. Specific hypotheses relating to these expected spatial regularities were formulated, the majority of which were confirmed. The paper concludes with some observations on the types of locations that appear to support successful restaurants in urban areas.

地方政府竞争：理解中国旅游经济现象的重要视角

中国旅游经济发展中旅游资源争夺战、遗产申报热、产品同质化、景区门票无序涨价、区域旅游合作失灵等现象存在的深层次原因在于地方政府之间的过度竞争。在现行体制下,旅游地政府竞争的根源在于中央与地方之间的行政性分权、资源配置的市场化转轨、政绩考核制度的经济化导向,监督与约束机制的实质性弱化加剧了竞争。消解地方政府过度竞争对旅游发展的负面影响需要明确中央与地方政府之间关系、改革政绩考核制度、强化约束机制,将是一个循序渐进的长期过程。
