Saving has an important impact on consumers’ lives and life satisfaction. However, various indices indicate that consumers do not save enough. This research shows that a simple change in the perception of money by imposing humanlike characteristics (i.e., money anthropomorphism) can significantly increase savings. Specifically, we posit that imbuing money with humanlike characteristics can enhance both saving intention and real saving behavior because humanized money is considered to be capable of experiences such as pain or joy (perception of experiences) and, as a result, is more vulnerable and in need of protection (perception of vulnerability). By inserting money clipart or using first-perception language to describe money, we manipulate money anthropomorphism in six studies. In behavioral studies, we show that these money anthropomorphism manipulations increase real saving behavior by 18%. In addition, several alternative accounts, including warmth perception of money, autonomy toward money, perceived control over money, feeling guilty about spending money, and perceived importance of money, are ruled out. Furthermore, the results show that when the target account to keep money is considered risky, the positive money anthropomorphism on saving disappears. The findings provide important and practical implications for increasing personal savings.  相似文献

Educational settings worldwide have a significant impact on the early use of digital devices and online media by children. Therefore, schools' educational technology (EdTech) adoption decisions may lead to long-term repercussions for students and society. The authors explore how schools make technology decisions on behalf of their students, focusing on the ways that privacy and data security are considered in technology adoption decisions and use. Adaptation-level theory helps to illustrate the growing dependence on technology in compulsory educational settings, the convenience of adopting digital tools, and the risks to children that result as they use and adapt to technology. Analysis of in-depth interviews and text analysis of public state reports indicate that confusion between information technology and EdTech consequentially leads to a “privacy-security chasm.” Findings highlight privacy-security challenges in K-12 school districts and the growing need to understand student privacy protection as part of children's digital well-being.  相似文献

How does concern about genetic data privacy compare with other concerns? We conduct behavioral experiments to compare risk attitudes towards sharing genetic data with a healthcare provider with risk attitudes towards sharing financial data with a money manager. Both scenarios involve identical decisions and monetary stakes, permitting us to focus on how the framing of data sharing influences attitudes. To delve deeper into individual motivations to share data, we provide treatments that study how data sharers' altruism and trust affect their decisions. Our findings (with 162 subjects) indicate that individuals are more willing to risk a loss to privacy of genetic data (for an anticipated return framed as health benefits) than they are to risk loss of financial data (for an anticipated return in financial benefits). We also find that 50%–60% of data recipients choose to protect another person's data, with no significant differences between frames.  相似文献

Many stakeholders such as parents, companies, and policymakers play a role in children's online privacy. This study explores how parents who have at least one child age 10 and younger perceive the sensitivity of their children's personal information and willingness to share it with social media marketers. Survey results of 418 parents indicate that a variety of types of children's information is perceived as sensitive, with certain information (e.g., videos, photos) that parents readily share via social media as highly sensitive. Findings also suggest that fathers and single parents are more likely to perceive their children's information as sensitive and yet are more willing to share it. This research contributes to the consumer welfare literature on children's privacy by providing a baseline of parents' attitudes regarding their children's data, extending prior research that has examined adults' perceptions of the sensitivity of their own information and willingness to share with social media marketers.  相似文献

本文基于货币演化逻辑以及公共选择理论的视角,论证了央行数字货币产生的必要性;从价值维度、技术维度、运营维度、应用维度的视角,论证了央行数字货币体系构建的充分性。央行数字货币体系构建过程中可能面临三个主要选择:计不计息、匿不匿名、跨不跨境。这三个选择对金融系统的影响体现为:现金、银行存款与央行数字货币的"三角平衡"问题,金融普惠原则下金融监管与用户隐私保护的"二元平衡"问题以及人民币国际化趋势下的全球支付"一点对接"问题。  相似文献

Consumer data is a crucial resource for retailers. Yet accessing this data increasingly requires consumers to willingly participate in data exchange. This paper draws on social exchange theory and privacy calculus to investigate differences in consumer willingness to exchange data with retailers. Consumers are also profiled on their perceptions of retailer's use and abuse of data, along with the antecedents and outcomes of these perceptions. We employ a cross-sectional quantitative survey and collect data from a sample of 463 US consumers. For statistical analysis, we employ a latent class segmentation and identify six consumer segments which differ in their perceptions of the consumer-retailer data exchange. The key drivers of these segment differences include privacy concerns, technology readiness, and general trust of, and engagement with, retail brands. The segments also differ in their subsequent views towards the use and abuse of their data by retailers, including willingness to exchange data. Hence, when accessing and utilizing consumer data, it is important that brands identify different segments, and adapt their approach accordingly.  相似文献

会计信息缺乏稳健性损害了股东和债权人的利益,如何进行有效监管是学界和实务界共同关注的焦点问题。选取2015—2019年沪深A股上市公司为研究对象,实证分析沪深交易所年报问询函制度对会计稳健性的治理效果,研究发现,年报问询函显著提高了被问询企业的会计稳健性,且当同一年报被问询次数越多、年报问询函问题数量越多、年报问询函需要中介机构发表意见、企业延期回函时,提升作用越大。进一步分析发现,对于负债率较高、内部控制质量较差的企业,年报问询函的监管效果更佳,同时监管依赖于信息环境,当企业信息环境较好时效果更明显;作用机制检验表明,年报问询函通过降低信息不对称、提高独立董事履职独立性和强化投资者关注来提高会计稳健性。结论表明,年报问询函能有效提高上市公司信息质量,发挥一线监管职能,为监管层进一步“加强事中事后监管,完善分级分类监管”及提高上市公司会计稳健性提供了政策思路。  相似文献

The market for behavioral biometrics—a technological evolution whereby patterns in human movement and activities can be identified, captured, and analyzed—is expected to exceed US $11 billion by 2031. We highlight the evolution from early physiological biometrics (e.g., fingerprints and iris scans used to verify the identity of individuals) to today’s behavioral biometrics. Technological advancements now turn our retail stores, offices, and warehouses into live data streams that let us closely and automatically monitor employees’ conduct at work. Although this development raises several legitimate surveillance and privacy concerns, behavioral biometrics can potentially benefit organizations and employees alike. Such mutual benefits compel managers to approach behavioral biometrics using our TRUST framework: transparency of intentions, respect for concerns, understanding the importance of choice, sharing the data benefits, and proactively timing the development. Managers who do so will gain a clear focus on organizational and employee well-being.  相似文献
