Married couples’ involvement with family vacations

Abstract

The involvement construct has received a great deal of attention in recent years. However, the majority of research on this topic has focused on the individual and has ignored spouses’ shared leisure involvement. In addition, little work has been done on involvement in the product‐class context of family vacations. This study examined the underlying dimensions of married couples’ involvement with family vacations and how these dimensions relate to selected personal variables. Factor analysis revealed two underlying dimensions. Stepwise multiple regression revealed that pleasure‐importance was positively related to gender role ideology and education and negatively related to presence of children in the home. A positive relation existed between the second dimension, sign value, and age. The study provides insight into both the nature of the involvement construct and how it might be used in future research.     

A multi-criteria assessment of tourist farm service quality

Farm tourism is a significant means of supplementing farmers' incomes. This paper presents a methodology for ranking tourist farms by using a multi-criteria model based on the qualitative multi-criteria modeling methodology, DEX, to assess service quality. The software tool DEXi was used to achieve this end. The model was then applied to seven tourist farms with data derived from questionnaires completed by tourist farm operators and guests. The results are shown as service quality assessments for individual farms. The potential of the model for assessing the farms is demonstrated with the aim of providing a comprehensive explanation and justification of the assessment technique. It also indicates potential improvements that farms can make through “what-if” analysis and visualization. Despite limitations, such as use of qualitative data only, the approach is proposed as being both appropriate and advantageous when compared with other means of ranking enterprises.

Entrepreneurial orientation in family firms: the case of the hospitality industry

Research increasingly shows interest in the motives and characteristics of entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality industry. Small and medium-sized family firms dominate this industry. Learning from the concept of entrepreneurial orientation and family business research, this explorative study aims at analysing entrepreneurial behaviours and their effect on performance as perceived by owner-managers of hospitality family businesses. The authors conduct narrative in-depth interviews to understand the managers' meaning of entrepreneurship and performance, and discuss the results in the light of existing entrepreneurship literature. Results indicate that family firms in hospitality and tourism are peculiar, and their embeddedness in the destinations and regions outlines their entrepreneurial behaviour against Schumpeter's definition of growth-oriented entrepreneurship.

A typology for defining agritourism

Agritourism has been studied in various ways and contexts. It can be argued, however, that studies have yet to provide a clear and basic understanding of the characteristics that underpin and define agritourism. This paper proposes an original typology for defining agritourism by identifying the key characteristics currently used to define agritourism in the literature and organising them into a transparent and structured framework. For the first time, the agritourism typology clarifies and classifies definitions of agritourism that currently exist in the literature. It therefore offers a comprehensive framework that can be used as a basis for more informed debate and discussion and for future empirical research.     

宗族式与小家庭式家庭结构对个体成长的影响

家庭,作为社会最基本的组织单位,承担着经济生产、生育子女、教养子女、赡养老人、满足个人的情感和生理需求等多方面的职能。每个人在作为独立个体进入社会之前都经历过一段相当长时间的家庭教养阶段,个人的人格、行为模式和价值观念等等都会受到家庭的莫大影响。所以不同家庭环境对于个体的发展起着不同的作用,本文旨在探讨传统宗族式家庭结构和现代小家庭式家庭结构对个体发展的不同路径的渗透。     

浅谈企业职工家属的户籍管理工作

企业职工家属的户籍管理与企业职工不同,在管理的过程中应该区别对待,从以人为本的角度出发。同时,在管理的过程中,我们发现现有的管理制度存在着一定的问题,主要是管理的有效性不高,本文就如何提高职工家属户籍管理效率这一问题展开论述,希望能够对今后的工作有所推动。     

Gender,family ties,and international mobility: Cultural distance matters

This study empirically tests a model of associations between family-domain variables and willingness to accept an international assignment, and applies the general model to sub-samples of men and women to examine gender differences in the pattern of relationships. We further explore these patterns in culturally similar and culturally distant country destinations. Analyses conducted with a sample of 148 men and 79 women employed MBA graduates from dual-earner couples revealed that perceived spouse willingness to relocate, beliefs regarding spouse and couple mobility, relative income, and the presence of children are associated with willingness to accept an international assignment. Moreover, consistent with social role theory, significant gender differences in willingness were found across low and high cultural distance country destinations.     

大学生婚恋家庭伦理危机及教育对策研究

大学生恋爱、性行为越来越普遍,婚姻问题开始出现,代际矛盾、冲突也非个别现象。这其中存在的价值取向和道德缺失问题,引起社会舆论的广泛关注。对此,高校不可坐视,须有所作为。本文通过调查分析,了解大学生婚恋家庭伦理危机状况;并提出,要因势利导,借助多种途径和渠道,强化婚恋家庭伦理道德教育,促进大学生身心健康成长和社会风尚的良好发展。
