Enhancing the study abroad experience: A longitudinal analysis of hospitality-oriented,study abroad program evaluations

Research suggests numerous benefits associated with studying abroad. Given the increasingly global nature of the world, it would seem that there is a significant need for international exposure; however, only 1.4% of U.S. students have studied abroad. This study examined program evaluations from 11 short-term undergraduate study abroad programs encompassing a span of 9 years. A total of 185 participants completed the survey using evaluations designed for program improvement, which were collected at the conclusion of each experience. Data were examined using a mixed-methods approach with the goal of identifying programmatic characteristics that contributed to increased student satisfaction. Results indicated that students' preferences were prioritized in terms of logistics, culture, and pleasure. In addition, the engagement and source of experience significantly influenced students' satisfaction with their study abroad experience, implying that students prefer programs with active components and local guides. Findings were examined in light of Mezirow's Transformative Learning Theory.     

Corporate Name Change and the Market Valuation of Firms: Evidence from an Emerging Market

Investors’ responses to a firm’s name change and the determinants of their response are scantly explored areas in the field of behavioral finance. Based on a sample of 415 Indian firms from 2005 to 2014, this study suggests that investors respond positively to the announcement of firm name changes. Furthermore, the study indicates that when firms do not indicate geographical specificity in the name and have a specific rather than generic name, then the firm will experience greater abnormal returns. Also, when firm names are fluent and are associated with the owner’s family name, again, abnormal returns generated are positive. Nevertheless, as a firm ages and investors gain more information about it, then abnormal returns due to name change decrease.     

Cuba: The New Frontier of Study Abroad Programs for U.S. Students

The growing reconciliation between the United States and Cuba has created a unique opportunity for U.S. business and hospitality students to observe and experience first-hand an economy in marked transition. Attempting to balance the tenets of socialism with a rapidly growing reliance on capitalism creates a rare learning environment for students. This article presents the plan for a 10-day faculty-led study abroad program to Cuba. The program is divided between the two (arguably) most important destinations in Cuba: the economic and cultural center, Havana, and the tourism powerhouse of Varadero. At each destination, students are engaged in lectures, site visits, research, and cultural experiences.     

基于政校企协同的高职专业顶层设计的探索与实践——以广东职业技术学院为例

按照"扬优、扶重、培新、集群"的专业发展策略,广东职业技术学院开展了专业顶层设计的研究与实践,构建以纺织服装为特色、现代产业为重点、其他专业为拓展的专业格局.其探索与实践对当下高职院校专业建设颇具启示意义.未来高职院校应从专业建设的高职性、地域性、独特性入手,加强特色课程开发与建设力度,培育特色专业,促进校企对接、产教融合,提高专业建设水平,建立健全专业预警机制.     

要素禀赋、政策支持与金融资源配置:产业转移的承接模式研究

本文以商务部认定的湖南、江西省四个加工贸易梯度转移重点承接地为样本,对比分析要素禀赋、政策支持和金融资源配置的异同及其影响,在总结归纳各自承接模式的特点的基础上,提出了"精品园区+核心企业+直接融资+金融助推"的较优模式,认为政策支持是影响承接产业转移的直接因素;要素禀赋的影响力有弱化趋势;金融资源配置是影响承接力和产业结构优化升级的重要因素;对待处于不同生命周期的产业转移企业,承接的工作重点应各有侧重.因此,承接产业转移要与"转方式、调结构"的战略方向一致.注重与本地的产业互补相结合,并需要金融部门的主动参与和服务创新.

本文是从城市规划的角度,来研究城市密集建设区内的绿色空间网络规划所涉及的相关理论基础和实践中的规划布局要点.在理论上认为连接性、服务覆盖面和多功能复合性是规划布局的要素,并认为景观生态学的景观安全格局和网络效应原理可以用来指导规划布局.在重庆市主城区的实践探索中,提出了体现“梳理——评价——辨析——成果”思路的工作程序...

着重对近期城市农业的研究文献从概念探讨、基本功能、生产内容、空间布局,发展空间及对城市形态的影响等八个方面进行了回顾和简评,并对未来的城市农业研究做出了展望。     

基于可持续发展理念和AHP的高校绩效评价研究

为了以绩效为导向合理分配高等教育资源,必须进行高校绩效的综合评价。首先,在可持续发展理念指导下,建立由4个一级指标和18个二级指标组成的高校绩效综合评价指标体系;其次,应用层次分析法构造两两判断矩阵,在层次单排序和总排序基础上计算各指标权重;最后,基于教育部直属财经类高校数据进行实证研究,并对结果加以分析。     

国内外上市公司内部控制信息披露的比较研究

本文对美国、英国等国家的内部控制信息披露进行了梳理和比较,对中国内部控制信息的披露提出了政策建议。     

基于Z-Score模型的我国房地产业上市公司财务风险的实证分析

在宏观经济紧缩和严厉调控政策的影响下,我国房地产企业已经出现了显著的财务风险。本文运用Z-Score财务风险预警模型,对在深市A股上市的61家房地产企业财务风险进行了实证研究,并在此基础上针对性地提出了房地产企业加强财务管理和风险防范的建议。
