论应用型本科院校大学生人文素质教育

应用型本科教育强调大学生应用能力的培养,为经济社会发展培养适应生产、建设、管理、服务第一线需要的技术性专门人才.然而,教育的本质是使人的体力和智力得到和谐发展,成为身心健康、体脑结合、各种才能都得到全面发展的人,是培养全面发展的人.因此,应用型本科院校必须高度重视、多方保障、开辟有效途径,加强大学生的人文素质教育.

Factors Associated with Students' Academic Motivation in Agricultural Economics Classes

A study of undergraduates at Texas A&M University, Purdue University, and the University of Florida reveals that students viewing grades as a contributor to career success tend to be more academically motivated. Several measures of academic motivation are examined by means of general linear and also nonlinear models. Electronic entertainment, socializing, and time spent working are all negatively associated with academic motivation. Greater academic motivation exists among females. To the extent that additional work is needed for the support of increased tuition costs, students have the potential to be less academically motivated.     

A Realistic International Economics

In this article, the authors describe the structure and assessment of a capstone course in economics. The outcomes are noteworthy for three reasons. First, among cited evidence to date, this is the only undergraduate economics program from a nonselective public university reporting similar achievements in undergraduate research paper publications. Second, the program reports learning outcomes of a relatively new instrument in standardized test (ETS MFT Economics) to measure attainment of proficiencies in economics. Finally, it introduces undergraduate research paper competition outcomes as a measure of student paper quality.

Alternative Ways to Teach and Learn Economics: Writing,Quantitative Reasoning,and Oral Communication

The authors describe an interesting attempt by one university to require of students demonstrated competencies in the areas suggested by the title—writing as freshmen, quantitative reasoning as sophomores and juniors, and oral communication as juniors or seniors. Quantitative measures of the effectiveness of the program are not provided.
