We endogenize circulation of currencies and price formation in a decentralized trading environment with two countries and two currencies. In equilibrium sellers of homogeneous goods may post prices in the national or also in the foreign currency, given unobservable buyers’ valuations. We prove that, under different monetary regimes, the absence of well integrated international goods markets doesn't necessarily imply a violation of the law of one price. We develop a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for estimating nested logit models in a Bayesian framework. Appropriate “heating target” and reparameterization techniques are adopted for fast mixing. For illustrative purposes, we have implemented the algorithm on two real-life examples involving 3-level structures. The first example involves social security's disability determination process (Soc. Security Bull. 58 (1995) 3). The second one is taken from Amemiya and Shimono's (Econ. Stud. This paper evaluates the determinants of the effectiveness of firing costs in reducing layoffs. We define effectiveness as either the level of productivity at which firms start firing workers for a given level of firing costs, or the change in this level caused by a given change in the level of firing costs. We find that both are very sensitive to the rate of interest, the persistence of productivity shocks, and the level of uncertainty. An increase in the persistence of shocks makes firing costs less effective, independent of which definition is used. A rise in the real interest rates initially makes firms start firing earlier, but then later if interest rates rise above a certain threshold. A rise in firing costs affects the firing threshold most at high interest rates. Finally, a rise in the degree of uncertainty makes firms wait longer before firing workers, but the effectiveness of changes in firing costs is not much affected by the degree of uncertainty. 相似文献

The dynamic evolutionary stability of mutual defection is proven for the repeated prisoner 's dilemma game where payoffs are cumulative and the number of repetitions is known. This agrees with the classical result that the only Nash equilibrium outcome is to defect at all stages of this repeated game. Moreover, it is shown that, for any initial polymorphic population, the evolutionary dynamic converges to a unique Nash equilibrium strategy that depends on the original polymorphism. We test the accuracy and hedging performance of the deltas given by a range of nonparametric measure changes. The nonparametric models accurately estimate deltas across a number of asset price dynamics. The optimal nonparametric measure change displays superior estimation bias, which depends on how the models capture the stylised features of the dynamics, moneyness, and time-to-expiry. Differences in estimation error appear negligible. The optimal measure change produces superior static hedging outcomes compared to the Black–Scholes model. The foundation of modern business thought is represented by the Chicago/Austrian School of economic thought using Milton Friedman as a basis and examples from the popular business press and from the work of accounting scholars to illustrate the pervasiveness of this idea of market solutions to ethical problems.It is contended that modern business theory, as represented by this neoclassical economic paradigm, has established a moral code for business based on efficiency of outcome and the assumed link of efficiency to self-interested behavior. Using panel data from nine European countries over the period 1970 to 2007, we examine the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on the demand for older workers (aged 50 and over). We find evidence of a decrease in demand for older workers in the 1970s and 1980s. It can be argued that the impact of ICT on demand for older workers is skill-biased. However, the skill-biased demand for older workers is mainly reflected in the skill-biased changes in employment shares rather than relative wages. There is some evidence of a gradual deskilling of older workers. We find that labour market institutions such as the national minimum wage, social pacts on wage issues and union density mostly benefit skilled older workers, while coordination of wage setting, extension of collective agreements, social pacts on pensions and centralisation of wage bargaining can alleviate the adverse effects of skill-biased technological change. 相似文献
