Price-volume relation in stocks: A multiple time series analysis on the Singapore market 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
We examine the price-volume relation in stocks using the multiple time series approach due to Tiao and Box (1981). This approach has the advantage of treating price and volume jointly and symmetrically (without enforcing the roles of input and output). It is free of the simultaneity bias in regression analysis and the unidirectional dynamics imposed by transfer function models. Empirical results show that there is implicit positive correlation between price and volume through their residuals. However, the results for the explicit lead and lag relations are mixed. The technical analysts' adage that volume often leads the trend of price is not supported. Nonetheless, the implicit relationship between price and volume confirms the usefulness of incorporating volume data to forecast future return. Our analysis shows that the multiple time series models outperform the univariate models in post-sample forecasts. 相似文献

This paper examines the links between gender differences in attitudes towards economic risk and the gender pay gap. Consistent with the literature on the socio-economic determinants of attitudes towards economic risk, it shows that females are much more risk averse than males. It then extends this research to show that workers with more favorable attitudes towards risk are associated with higher earnings, and that gender differences in attitudes towards economic risk can account for a small, though important, part of the standardized gender pay gap. 相似文献

This paper examines the effects of attitudes toward economic risk on occupational choice. Workers with a more favourable disposition toward economic risk have a higher probability of being employed in the more prestigious, high‐paying Professional and Administrative occupations. Potential biases associated with omitted genetic and family background factors are considered. The marked differential in attitudes toward economic risk between males and females, however, makes only a minor contribution to the considerable occupational segregation on the basis of gender in the contemporary Australian labor market. 相似文献

This paper investigates the relationship between ethics and income among individuals of different religions in the HKSAR of
China. The presence of both traditional Chinese religion and Christianity from the West makes our study particularly interesting.
The content of ethical beliefs varies with religion and thus the effect of ethics on income may also vary across religion.
Furthermore, a reverse causal relationship may run from income to ethics. Since culture and taste affect the consumption behavior
of a person, depending on the religion of the person, a person with a higher income may or may not like to ‘acquire’ more
ethics. Our empirical results find that there is indeed a simultaneous relationship between income and being ethical so that
a single equation estimation of income on ethics and vice versa generates biased estimates. Using a two-stage instrumental
variable estimation, our study finds that being ethical contributes to higher income for Christians and the non-religious
group, but lowers it for people of traditional Chinese religion. On the other hand, an increase in income increases the likelihood
of a person’s being ethical for both Christians and the people of traditional Chinese religion, but reduces it for the non-religious
group.
