The Richards model has a shape parameter m that allows it to fit any sigmoidal curve. This article demonstrates the ability of a modified Richards model to fit a variety of technology diffusion curvilinear data that would otherwise be fit by Bass, Gompertz, Logistic, and other models. The performance of the Richards model in forecasting was examined by analyzing fragments of data computed from the model itself, where the fragments simulated either an entire diffusion curve but with sparse data points, or only the initial trajectory of a diffusion curve but with dense data points. It was determined that accurate parameter estimates could be obtained when the data was sparse but traced out the curve at least up to the third inflection point (concave down), and when the data was dense and traced out the curve up to the first inflection point (concave up). Rogers' Innovation I, II and III are discussed in the context of the Richards model. Since m is scale independent, the model allows for a typology of diffusion curves and may provide an alternative to Rogers' typology. 相似文献

The study pursues a line of inquiry into contemporary gender stereotypes drawn from print advertisements in Cyprus. The investigation of implicit modes of stereotyping suggested by Goffman across explicit gender roles yield novel and interesting insights that broaden existing knowledge on male and female advertising depictions. Through a content analysis of 3.729 characters, the study reveals the existence of gender clichés in Cypriot magazine advertisements. Neither male nor female evolving roles are adequately reflected in advertisements, as men tend to be portrayed in traditional masculine stereotypes while women lean towards decorative portrayals. Implicit stereotyping is more likely to suggest the subordination and lower status of women compared to men. The study indicates that advertising in Cyprus reinforces the diffusion of hostile sexism by the underrepresentation of professional women and their commonplace portrayal in body revealing attires. At the same time, the high proportion of women's implicit subordination signifies benevolent sexism. The distorted representation of both genders raises key public policy concerns, as diminishing portrayals hold sway upon men's and women's psychological well-being and professional development. 相似文献

Under an uncertain transportation cost, residential choice is made before the actual state of the world reveals itself. Formally, this resembles the theory of saving under uncertainty. Exploring this resemblance, we investigate the effect on urban structure of introducing uncertainty in transportation cost. Our main conclusion is that risk does not necessarily have the same effect on the city that an increase in transportation cost does in the deterministic case. If the utility function obeys the ‘principle of decreasing risk aversion to concentration’, introducing risk causes the urban area to contract (as in the case of an increasing transportation cost), but the equilibrium utility level may either increase or decrease. If, on the other hand, utility does not satisfy the above principle, introducing risk causes the utility level to decline (as if the case of an increasing transportation cost), but the urban area may either expand or contract. 相似文献

Research on female stereotypes in online advertisements is particularly scant, and thus, we lack evidence on whether women
are depicted in derogatory (stereotypical) terms on the Internet or not. This theme has significant ethical implications.
Hence, the objectives of this study are: (1) to provide evidence on female role portrayals in online advertisements of global
products, and (2) to explore female role portrayals across web pages for different audience types. The results indicate that
women are generally portrayed in a stereotypical way, supporting the notion that sexism is prevalent in online advertisements
worldwide. Portrayal of women across web pages varies considerably, with female-audience web pages embracing “decorative”
female images; male-audience web pages promoting polarizing depictions of women in “dependent” or “non-traditional” roles;
and general-audience web pages using portrayals of women as housewives or equal to men. Overall, the findings suggest that
“traditional” or “decorative” stereotypes are largely evident in all three audience types, although some “non-traditional”
roles may occur. Implications and future research directions are discussed. 相似文献

In this paper we argue that the impact of external scale economies and diseconomies on city size is not nearly as clear-cut as it is tacitly believed in urban economics. Similarly, city-size distortions are not caused by externalities alone. Indivisibility and nonreplicability, which prevent establishing the “right” number of cities, may represent a source for city-size distortions which can be stronger than the standard resource misallocation resulting from external scale economies and diseconomies. It follows that a direct population dispersion policy is not just an inferior substitute to Pigouvian taxes and subsidies but rather a useful complement. 相似文献

Political strategies are a crucial matter for MNEs in the context of globalization. We argue that MNEs’ influence on political decision-making depends on their insertion into policy networks, which define the institutional framework and the interaction patterns of business/government relations in different issue-areas. Then, we propose a stylized taxonomy regarding the differentiation of MNEs’ political leverage in various domains, at a home country level. Finally, we explore the influence of political power at home on MNEs’ strategic approaches to the host countries, taking into account the bargaining power of local actors in the concerned issue-areas. 相似文献

We model imperfect governments with public choices that are sequential, myopic and not free of error. We first use this framework to explore governmental incremental budgeting. We argue that a model of bounded rationality is required to capture the empirical reality of incremental budgeting. We then provide a model that integrates bounds errors and systematic errors. We argue that the empirical evidence is that bounds errors and systematic errors are inextricably intertwined—some level of bounded rationality is required for systematic errors to emerge. We use this to explore political information lobbying. A testable hypothesis is that lobbyists will focus efforts on policy-makers of low ability. We show that choosing leaders with high ability, that is Madison's wisdom to discern, is important, especially when policy decisions concern dangerous products (rifles) or dangerous environments (pandemics). 相似文献
