As international trade and business opportunities grow globally, insight into trading partners’ strategies is essential. One of the major strategies that impact trading partners’ relationships is negotiation strategy employed by each partner. These strategies assume even greater importance when these strategies have ethical content. This study examines the effects of marketing executives’ preferred ethical ideologies (relativism and idealism), opportunism and Machiavellianism on their perceived appropriateness of unethical negotiation tactics. Utilizing a sample of 995 marketing executives from six countries, cluster analysis and multivariate analysis of variance revealed two types of marketing negotiators: principled and corrupt negotiators. Corrupt negotiators tend to be more Machiavellian, more relativist, more opportunistic and less idealistic than their principled counterparts. Principled negotiators tend to perceive unethical negotiation tactics less favorably than their corrupt counterparts. Implications of these results for practitioners and directions for future research are discussed.  相似文献

Point and interval estimations of two abbreviated social welfare functions are studied based on Schutz and Gini coefficients. The limit distributions of the estimators are derived in terms of sample L-moments and mean absolute deviation. A simulation study is performed to assess the bias in the estimators and the coverage probability of the confidence intervals. Unlike the previous studies our results do not require the grouping of population into a fixed number of quantiles. The proposed methods use distribution-free unbiased estimators and exact sample L-moment variances. An application is given that illustrates the benefits of the proposed methods.  相似文献

Pro-environmental behaviors in the workplace are less investigated than those in the public and private spheres. With this in mind, and through the values framework of workplace spirituality (WPS), synthesizing the theories of connectedness and organizational citizenship, the current study proposed a theoretical model to gauge the influence of WPS, a relatively new area of inquiry in organizational research and a neglected field in tourism and hospitality, on hotel employees’ organizational citizenship behavior for the environment (OCBE). In this framework, the emerging concept of connectedness to nature (CNS) – a strong cognitive and affective predictor of pro-environmental behavior – was depicted as a mediator, and the construct of environmental awareness (EA) was deemed a moderator. The intended model received support through empirical testing, and results confirmed that WPS is significantly associated with employees’ OCBE, and CNS indirectly affects the relationship between WPS and OCBE, while EA functions as a booster. The theoretical and practical implications of the study were discussed, and a series of contributory managerial implications were described accordingly.  相似文献

Contemporary performance measurement systems, such as the balanced scorecard, often advocate the use of an array of financial and non‐financial measures. Despite many claimed advantages for these systems, recent research shows that the inclusion of multiple performance measures sometimes has undesirable effects. The present study examines one of the potential problems of implementing these systems; namely, the impact of perceived goal conflict on task performance. Using survey data from employees working in multiple call centres in a telecommunication company, we find that perceived goal difficulty increases perceived goal conflict. Additionally, perceived goal difficulty also has a negative, indirect effect of task performance, through the mediating role of perceived goal conflict. Our results have important implications for both the research literature and the designers of performance measurement systems.  相似文献

We analyze the role of knowhow acquisition in the formationand duration of joint ventures. Two parties become partnersin a joint venture to benefit from each other’s knowhow.Joint operations provide each party with the opportunity toacquire part of its partner’s knowhow. A party’sincreased knowhow provides the impetus for the dissolution ofthe joint venture. We characterize the conditions under whichdissolution takes place, identify the party that buys out itspartner, determine the time to dissolution, establish its comparativestatics, and examine the implications of knowledge acquisitionfor the desirability of joint venture formation. This study reviews the literature on the association between different facets of CEO/CFO characteristics and the properties of accounting information. The review is organized around three broad themes, namely, the association between financial reporting quality and CEO/CFO turnover, the effect of managerial overconfidence on financial reporting outcomes, and finally the effect of CEO/CFO gender on reporting outcomes. This review illustrates the importance of considering CEO/CFO characteristics as an important determinant of financial reporting outcomes. This study offers insights to policy makers interested in enhancing the governance function to enhance the credibility of financial reporting. The review informs regulators that designing governance structure disregarding CEO/CFO characteristics may not bring desired benefits.  相似文献

This paper investigates the impact of different classes of ownership concentration on information asymmetry conditional upon corporate voluntary disclosures in New Zealand. The current paper attempts to extend this stream of research by incorporating three mutually exclusive ownership structures and considering the interactive relationship between such ownership structures and corporate voluntary disclosures. Results reveal that ownership concentration in general is significantly positively associated with bid-ask spreads (proxy for information asymmetry) observed around annual report release dates. This finding supports the adverse selection hypothesis and importantly this effect is found to be most pronounced for financial institutions and management-controlled ownership categories. When voluntary disclosure is taken into account, the findings demonstrate that disclosures significantly attenuate information asymmetry risk associated with ownership concentration. This effect is particularly pronounced for firms with management-controlled ownership structures. The findings highlight the importance of corporate disclosures under concentrated ownership structures especially management-controlled ownership structures in reducing information asymmetry and enhancing market efficiency in New Zealand.  相似文献

This paper outlines claims and evidence concerning the balanced scorecard (BSC) from the research literature, integrating current thinking about its substantive content and assumptions, strategic alignment, implementation issues, judgment and decision-making, organisational performance, compensation plans, and comparisons to other performance-measurement practices. In doing so, diverse localisations of the BSC are brought into view, as well as difficulties accompanying the practice of the BSC. Support for the two-tier approach to income maintenance for the aged is becoming widespread. Two-tier formulas combine an income-conditioned bottom tier with an earnings-related top tier to achieve antipoverty and earnings replacement objectives. This paper first refutes the claim that the two-tier approach is generally more target-efficient in reaching the poor than is the earnings-related top tier with progressive replacement rates. Next, the paper compares the effectiveness of the two systems in terms of other goals. The paper concludes by showing that a top tier with a low tax on current income can virtually dominate a wide range of two-tier formulas.  相似文献
