Affiliation: | Formerly Senior Lecturer in Economic History at the University of the Witwatersrand. Now in retirement in Cambridge, England. The paper was presented in October, 1992 at the Symposium on Schmoller and Wagner in Heilbronn, Germany. The part about Arnold Wilson was from a paper presented in July, 1992 at the 14th International Symposium on Asian Studies in Hong Kong, under the title "Some Thoughts about OETA and Southwest Asia 1917–1921". It will be published in full in the Proceedings, by the Asian Research Service, G.P.O. Box 2232, Hong Kong.
