It is Joseph Nye who has been at the forefront of discussions on American foreign policy regarding to American "soft power".In the decade from 2000 to 2010,America’s soft power has followed a thought-provoking trajectory.Promoting democracy in other nations was one of the building blocks of American foreign policy in George W.Bush administration.The American promotion of democracy in the Middle East is seen as a costly negative endeavor,which has damaged America’s image.According to the tracking of The Pew Global Attitudes Project,America’s soft power had a declining trend throughout much of the world over George W.Bush’s presidential years.Contrastively,Obama administration has somewhat improved global confidence in the United States with its "smart power" strategy.
