Literal Translation VS Free Translation

There exist, in the field of translation, two basic methods: literal translation and free translation. The birth of translation theory in ancient times commenced the argument about the relationship between them, and it lived on not only in China but also in western countries. Nonetheless, an agreement still can' t be reached. The relationship between literal translation and free translation will be discussed deeply by analyzing what translators have brought up and argued, in order that some reference can be provided, which will hopefully facilitate transla-tors to work better.
