Bush administration to spread democracy abroad and its destructive consequences to the target countries caused worldwide anti-Americanism. Rising anti- Americanism around the world has deprived America of the soft power that it needs to lead the world. Poll after poll confirms that America＇s soft power has declined, particularly in the Islamic world. The costly lessons left by the idealist George W. Bush, who made democracy promotion the main priority for American foreign policy, led to the ＂smart power strategy＂ in Obama administration.
