Deregulation initiatives in Hong Kong

Affiliation:Martin Barrow is a Director of Jardine Matheson Ltd and a long-term resident of Hong Kong. He was appointed by the Hong Kong Government to be Chairman of the Deregulation Committee. He was a member of Hong Kong's Legislative Council from 1988 to 1995. The views in the paper are those of Mr Barrow and do not necessarily reflect those of the Hong Kong government.
Abstract:In Hong Kong, after its smooth establishment as a Special Administrative Region, there is a major deregulation effort. A deregulation committee is pursuing cases of unnecessary red tape and the private sector is becoming more involved in the delivery of public services. Hong Kong is the best place in Asia to do business.
