Outstanding Transformation of Industrial Heritage Site for Sustainable Urban Redevelopment: MASS MoCA

Nowadays China is facing the dual challenges of industrial heritage conservation and sustainable urban redevelopment. The paper analyzes the successful example of Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), which combines the adaptive reuse of industrial heritage with urban redevelopment for a remote, small and medium-sized post-industrial city into regional cultural and creative industrial cluster center. The paper summarizes the sustainable urban redevelopment path of MASS MoCA as shared values on heritage conservation, shared space for architectural programming, and shared benefit for publicprivate-partnership. The case study of MASS MoCA would provide reference for the cultural and creative-oriented industrial heritage reuse and the transformation of small and medium-sized industrial cities in China
