Lexical Repetition and its Cohesive Function in Text

Lexical cohesion is one important type of textual cohesion while repetition is the most direct form of lexical cohesion. When people think of repetition,they always think of its emphatic function. In fact, besides emphasis, lexical repetition plays an important role in textual structure. This paper mainly discusses the two types of lexical repetition and its cohesive function in text. It also points out the implications of its cohesive function for language teaching.
