Emerging production systems in the transnationalisation of German car manufacturers: adaptation,application or innovation?

Based on case studies, this article seeks to determine whether or not German car manufacturers are exporting a 'German production model' to overseas plants and to what extent the overseas operations have a reciprocal effect on production methods in the originating country. It is argued that the most adequate analytical concept is one that emphasises interest-driven organisational learning processes.
