An Analysis on the Developments, Trends and Policy Suggestions of mobile Payments Industry

Payment is one of the most important parts of the economic activities, which bears the fundamental function of fund transfers. With the developments of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the continuous penetration of e-commerce, and the promotion of various policies such as "Internet Plus", the electronic payment methods represented by mobile payments have rapidly emerged as a driving force for promoting consumption and facilitating people''s livelihood. From a historical perspective, the construction of the modern payment system laid the solid foundation for mobile payments, the developments of e-commerce boosted the popularity of remote payments through computers, and the online-to-offline models further promoted the growth of mobile payment industry. Combined with the current developments, this paper puts forward several trends of mobile payment industry from the perspectives of regulatory policy, industry structure and technological innovations, and provides some policy suggestions on the healthy and sustainable developments of the industry.
