Development of low c arbon energy patents and recommended countermeasures for domestic oil companies

The number of low carbon technology patent applications has increased sharply since the late 1990s. Most low carbon technology patent rights are vested to the transnational companies of developed countries, while the number of patents granted to developing countries is limited. The main developed countries are continuously strengthening the development and protection of low carbon technology. International oil engineering technology service companies occupied a dominant position in the field of unconventional natural gas technology, while international oil companies have started to make more efforts in patents in the past few years. Major international companies do not invest much in the research & development of low carbon technology, and they take mergers and acquisitions as the major strategy to obtain low carbon resources and low carbon technology; they cooperate with leading companies in technology and seize the initiative in development. For China’s oil companies, the high price of low carbon technology results in increased introduction costs.Therefore, China’s oil companies may seek opportunities in the field of unconventional natural gas to acquire engineering technology service companies with core patented technology. In the technical field, they may carry out cooperative research & development and independent innovation simultaneously; they should cooperate with target companies that truly have key technology; they should make full use of patented information resources in the low carbon energy sector.
