A Study on the Evolution of Industrial Organization of Five-star Hotels in Shanghai Based on SCP Theory

With the full expansion of foreign hotel groups, there has been a big arguement on the prospects of domestic five-star hotels market in recent years. Based on the SCP theory, this paper analyzes the development status and evolution trend of the five- star hotels market in Shanghai comprehensively, which is dominated by the foreign hotel groups. The author considers that mar- ket structure will present a separation-concentration evolutionary trend. The increase of market supply raises more enter risks which will cause the enhancement of market barriers. And market conduct will show a comprehensive trend within a variety of price behaviors, further competition and cooperation behaviors. According to the analysis, the author considers that： on one hand, the domestic hotel groups should raise the management level, seek cooperation and carry out expansive strategy with the power of brand and capital; on the other hand, they should rely on government resources to develop new tourism market and seize development opportunities.
