On Cultural Errors in Interpreting Cultural Translation——A Case Study of "Man Proposes, Heaven Disposes"

This paper discusses the cultural interpretation of ＂ Man proposes, Heaven disposes＂, an English translation of a Chinese proverb of ＂谋事在人,成事在天＂ by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang. The author, by eontras- ring the cultural meanings of the English word Heaven and the Chinese word ＂天＂and presenting the verification of two native speakers of English, argues that the translation by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang does not preserve the Chinese culture, as many other people hold in their research papers.
