Spontaneous Construction of Economic Order

By his well-known metaphor "invisible hand", Adam Smith reveals the essence of market economy - economic order that is spontaneously constructed and evolved on the bases of freedom of individuals under certain constraint. Allowing for the issues of Adam Smith's time, coupled with the evolutionary perspective of Hayek's "spontaneous order", the author is tracing the theoretical background, connotation and denotation, and modality development of the metaphor. In comparing the similarity between modern China's economic situation and that of Smith's time, the author points to the important insights and significance that the idea may bear on Chinese economic marketization and perfection of the market economy.
