Abstract:This paper deals with the guidance of cognitive linguistics in inherent mechanism of vocabulary acquisition.It expounds the basic category terms,prototype category terms and the metaphorical meaning of terms,putting forward that in the learning process of English vocabulary,it is imperative to emphasize the basic category of words,the explanation of the underlying link between the meanings of polysemy and the cognition of metaphors.
