Economic Transformation in Central and Eastern Europe: Achievements and Challenges

This paper reviews the economic transition in Central and Eastern Europe over the past two decades and points out the characteristics of economic transition in the region. On this basis, the paper analyzes achievements of the economic transition in Central and Eastern Europe, emphasizing the significant progress Central and Eastern European countries have made in establishing a market economic system and achieving economic development. This paper also considers the impact of the global financial crisis on Central and Eastern European countries and the many challenges they now face in various areas, especially the need to promote social reform.
