Position and Development Strategy of Rural Commercial Banks in Our Country at Current Stage

As a new presence in the financial landscape of rural areas in China, the first three rural commercial banks has been in operation for more than two years with unprecedented surge in operational performance, social reputation and popularity. Practice shows that the model and design of our rural commercial banks serves as an example for the reform of other rural credit cooperatives. Rural commercial banks should position themselves differently from other commercial banks in operation and lay emphasis on supporting local economic development, serve agriculture, countryside and farmers, serve small and medium-sized enterprises and individual-run businesses, serve VIP customers. And a three-stage development strategy for rural commercial banks is proposed, e.g. for near-term development, they should consolidate their base, train their staff and strive to be the best in the sector; for middle-term development, they should optimize mechanism, strengthen management and catch up with advanced financial enterprises in the country and for the long-term development, they should introduce strategic investors, realize digital integration and turn their banks into top banks in an around way.
