China’s machine tool industry has kept growing rapidly.The gross output value of the industry increased from RMB 30.167 billion in 2000 to RMB 628.749 billion in 2010.During the country’s Eleventh Five-year Plan,the compound growth rate of the industry was 34.5%.The industry slightly slowed down in 2011.Its gross output value rose to RMB 660.65 billion,a yearon-year rise of 32.1%.The country’s import value of machine tools rose to USD 20.29 billion,and the export value rose to USD 8.9 billion.In January and February 2012,the gross output value of the Chinese machine tool industry rose to RMB 102.363 billion,a year-on-year rise of 21.3%.The export delivery value was RMB 5.026 billion,a slight rise of 0.16%.There are many factors which restrict the Chinese machine tool industry.The enterprise scales of the manufacturers are relatively small.The industry’s profitability is lower than the global level.The concentration ratio of the industry remains low,while the labor costs have been rising.To tackle these problems,the machine tool manufacturers will have to spend more on R&D and enhance the industry’s competence.
